cartoonish guages in the WW view to more realistic - wingflyr - 14.12.2007

Hey guys Im not a computer gurus like some of the mod makers here, but I do know how to find my way around with a little help. With all these excellent mods floating about, I thought Id try my hand at it with maybe making a simple mod. I managed to extract the sfs files and alter the Hud Tga files of the cartoonish guages in the WW view to more realistic looking .Then I put them into the file folder eg; 3do/cockpit/Null 3do/cockpit/nill 3do/cockpit/hurricaneMK I with the proper tga and mat also proper pathway in the filelist but I still get the originals cartoonish guages.
Do I have to delete the originals or can someone shed some light Thanks.

You must put pathway to your modified files also in the “filelist”

That “3do/cockpit/Null 3do/cockpit/nill 3do/cockpit/hurricaneMK I” copy-paste to that filelist so the game knows from where to draw textures. And I think that those folders are not good, but you will see.

Thanks for the info Avala, I did just that but still no go. I wonder if color and transparency has something to do with it. I even tried other folders, Eg ; gui game 3do ??

Added following to filelist

3DO/Cockpit/null/hudneedles.tga
3DO/Cockpit/null/hudneedles.mat
3DO/Cockpit/null/hudleft.tga
3DO/Cockpit/null/hudleft.mat
3DO/Cockpit/null/hudright.tga
3DO/Cockpit/null/hudright.mat
3DO/Cockpit/null/hudmask.tga
3DO/Cockpit/null/hudmask.mat

3DO/Cockpit/Nill/hudneedles.tga
3DO/Cockpit/Nill/hudneedles.mat
3DO/Cockpit/Nill/hudleft.tga
3DO/Cockpit/Nill/hudleft.mat
3DO/Cockpit/Nill/hudright.tga
3DO/Cockpit/Nill/hudright.mat
3DO/Cockpit/Nill/hudmask.tga
3DO/Cockpit/Nill/hudmask.mat

3DO/Cockpit/HurricaneMkI/hudneedles.tga
3DO/Cockpit/HurricaneMkI/hudneedles.mat
3DO/Cockpit/HurricaneMkI/hudleft.tga
3DO/Cockpit/HurricaneMkI/hudleft.mat
3DO/Cockpit/HurricaneMkI/hudright.tga
3DO/Cockpit/HurricaneMkI/hudright.mat
3DO/Cockpit/HurricaneMkI/hudmask.tga
3DO/Cockpit/HurricaneMkI/hudmask.mat

I hope someone can come up with this, I prefer fullcockpit but my squad ends up in WW server about half the time so it would be a nice touch.

You are doing gauges for that non-cockpit view? Because I don’t recognize that folders and tga files, and I am working on cockpit textures.

- wingflyr - 15.12.2007

Dont get me wrong I definitly fly with gauges only without WW view, as I have even built sim cockpit via device link for offline fun. I have posted over at the zoo.

Anyway I wanted to try my hand at modding cause it looks so rewarding even to try a few ideas. So I extracted the SFS file , found these tga files and tried to see what I can come up with. It takes some time to figure out what you doing(me anyways) which leads me to admire what these mods can do. If the WW view guages can be improved, great, because there is always someone that can use them.

I managed to change the files of the cartoonish guages in the WW view to more realistic looking .

Also the WW veiw is not for everybody including myself, but there is always someone that can use them.

I have submitted this mod to MR jolly and he has approved.
I have included 4 sets for choice, have fun. Screenies of two below.
Cheers Wingflyr.

Good work mate.

I have to say it mate.. if you are wanting the gauges to look more 'realistic' in WW view.. (there's a contradiction in terms for a start..lol), why don't you fly full real? WW view is not in any way realistic is it??

Hi guys Thanks.
 Tropper I do fly as you call it  " full real ''all the time. As I stated above, I made this as my contribution to this site for the people whom could use it. I actually built built a working sim pit that I fly offline via device link with only gauges. Cheers wingflyr.

Wingflyr, do you have a page or forum link where you explained or documented how you did that? Is there a 22"LCD behind the instrument panel or something similar?
