[MOD] Immersive text overlay - ROSOBORONEXPORTCORP - 22.12.2007
You know that annoying glowing blue pulsating text that sits over everything?
This will simplify it:
- removing many redundant messages ("vehicle destroyed"),
- removing unrealistic messages about the aircraft (eg. "fuel leak", "out of ammo")
- simplify routine messages to a single letter or group of dots (time compression, radiator position)
It takes a little bit to get used to (about as much as switching joysticks). But it is more realistic and much more immersive. The file is also in a simple text format, so it should be easy to tweak it to your own liking.
To Install
Delete the contents of .\files\i18n\hud_log_ru.properties and replace it with the text below:

A video would be the only thing that would show it properly. It is probably easiest to try installing it (make a back up!). An alternative is to go into conf.ini and change "NoHudLog=0" to "NoHudLog=1".
This mod produces an intermediate effect (so you can fly with "no external views" for instance and still know your radiator position without cluttering the screen).

There is no message stating that the guns are out of ammo,
because you should be able to figure that out for yourself (this is realistic eh?)

Is it possible instead text to have some small transparent graphics? I could make it. For everything a symbol? And maybe that could be black and white transparent? But, what would be the symbols, is there some already known symbols for that stuf?

Could the font of the text be modified to be smaller? Also the chat and the AI chat could be modified in size? The AI chat would need a number of lines fix too.

the Problem with AI Text can be fixed with Shturmovic Stab 6.3 Tool or in conf.ini.
Stab 6.3 is just an Interface for Settings in conf.ini ... good tool if you ask me.

how does stab fixes/corrects font sizes? it cant be done cause FMB will be unreadable
u can make both chat and messages disappear with using conf.ini lines in the [game] section :

IL2 Stab can modify the numbers of AI chat lines. I made it to be just one single line

c1, c2, c3 are the kompressor stages (or supercharger)
r., r2, r4, r6, r8, ro (open), ra (auto) are the radiator stages
also I modified the labels for wounded heavily wounded and killed in "hit", "wounded" and "dead"
player killed now is just... "fin" (french for end
)

That is a nice notation system and I may adopt it.
One of the nice things about this modding is that you can remove things that give you unrealistic information about the aircraft state. Alternatively, though you could change the text to be a radio message from an ally telling you that, for instance, your gear is still up...

I tried with no hud log in conf.ini but not all the instruments are realistic enough for that, some of the hud_log lines are actually needed, that's why I find this mod interesting.

Here's my own modification based on the modded version: it changes some details (e.g radiators closed is now R:0 and radiators open is R:10 (auto is R: A)
Some messages have been shortened using acronyms (eg L/G for landing gear) but some that could be kind of difficult to remember have been only "half shortened" (eg G/Pods for gunpods and Sel/Unsel. for selected and unselected).
Added lines for Askania gunsight
Most of the stiff that ROSOBORONEXPORTCORP had set to dots and other punctuation marks are now short forms or acronyms (a little bit less difficult to memorize), except for the boost/WEP where he had a ! and I switched it for ***
(for more details just read the list, it's pretty human readable. Hint: pick what you like from all the versions and up your own lines when you don't like any)
Just for fun, "Player: Wounded" has been replaced with "OUCH!" and "Player: Heavily Wounded" with "***OUCH !!!***.
Most of the no-message stuff like "power" and "weapon: out of ammo" have been left alone (no message). BTW I noticed that I tend to handle my engines and props much more realistically without the Power % on-screen messages.
