Boom and Zoom - Griffon - 28.12.2007
This is probably an extremely 'noobish' question to ask, so please show some respect that i have the courage to actually get up and ask it,
but what is a 'boom and zoom' ??? :?

There are four parts. Links on top of the first page. If you prefer, I teach you what is B&Z online...

In laymans terms, it's 'energy tactics'.. You are using your fighters superior speed to either 'attack and run' or 'attack and climb'.. One or the other depending on what type of engagement is suitable..
One of the major considerations is the type of aircraft you are attacking.. The 'boom and zoom' tactic is one you would probably want to use against an enemy who is employing an aircraft that can out turn yours, so there is no point in slowing down to turn with him because eventualy he will be able to get on your tail..
Instead, you will start from a height advantage, and use your superior speed to approach form above, briefly engage the target and 'zoom' away, either running to outdistance your opponent, or climbing back to your position of advantage to repeat an attack if it presents itself.
by the way, it takes alot of practice!

So in effect, its using speed to hit and run. Getting high altitude, dropping down and taking shots at them, then disengaging, using your speed to get away or to get ready for another attack.
Sounds like a tactic i'd use only on bombers. Maybe on fighters, but i think if you did it to a fighter, you'd only get one shot at it

Believe me, you can down a fighter with this tactic. It's necessary a lot of practice, but it was done in war and it can be done in this simulator. Of course, the ideal fighter to do B&Z is which is able to use a lot of fire power in one second or less (for example, the Fw-190 in hit & run).

i am the expert on boom and zoom, fighters are my priority, many people get so frustruated with me that they say that i am cheating, but i am not cheating, i am using this diving force to kill people. Best plane for boom and zoom attacks and relativly high turn rate at high speed is a FW190. 8) trust me P47 sucks, those bb guns dont work well

i suggest that you look at lag, lead, and pure pursuit. You can easily over shoot the enemy, get too close and have no room to breath or pop onto his six, tap the trigger and watch him open his shoot.
Even in a p-47 gentle, you can bring a guy down, Fw190 are 1 hit 1 kill, wing off or even explosion. 8 0.50cal guns in a hail of bullets at the right convergence and cause massive amounts of damage, pilot kills, engine failures and wing rips. in a 2 second burst you can shower the enemy with over 210 rounds (at 270m, he aint getting up)

I pulled off a B&Z with a Spitfire IX on a BF 109. neatly sheared off its wing

Wrong.
Those "bb" guns will tare your engine apart. never underestimate .50 cals.
- creamy - 14.07.2008
tis true dived on a 190 ripped both his wings and tail off with a perfect deflection shot and see him blow up a 200 meters in front of me 8 50 cals are no 30 cals, although i like the 30cals as 100s of bullets a second can make the enemy make a mistake to avoid allowing cannons to finish the job

The so-called .50 cals of this game will ream someone several new ***holes in short order.
However, this requires the ability to get most of the rounds to hit at almost the same spot on the target. If you can't do that, then all you'll manage is to generally annoy your target.
This is why, in Oleg's World, the US aircraft are the ultimate expert pilot's aircraft. You know you are an expert pilot when you can get in a P-47 and not only stay alive, but consistently shoot down aircraft quickly and efficiently.
I can usually manage the staying alive part, just not the shoot down quickly and efficiently part
You know, if this game is accurate then it proves that the US fighter pilots of WWII were bar none the biggest billy bad arse pilots that ever took to the sky, considering the absolute crap they were flying compared to their victory to defeat ratios.

they were around in huge numbers too..
