How do we arrange Aircraft Mods? *NEW VOTE* - Guest - 28.12.2007

ok i really need to sort out the flyable ai aircraft mods - we will soon have a new forum (i hope ) but until then i need to tidy up the mods section

THIS IS A NEW VOTE AS I HAVE CHANGED THE OPTIONS PLEASE THINK & READ CAREFULLY

ok the vote is

Do we have...

A. Just have One big flyable aircraft mod pack with all current flyables & then have no individual aircraft mods. -BUT WE STILL HAVE INDIVIDUAL AIRCRAFT MOD UPDATES-

B. Aircraft Mod packs & individual Aircraft Mods.

C. Different kinds of Aircraft Mod packs including a big Aircraft mod pack but no individual Aircraft Mods.

D. None of these

E. Dont know

THIS DOES NOT EFFECT ANY OTHER MODS ! THEY WILL STILL BE POSTED AS NORMAL ! THIS VOTE IS ONLY FOR AIRCRAFT MODS

I think lots of small packs would be best...

aircraft by nationality....
smokes/visibility/lights/dust...
maps
sounds
sights/cockpitskins etc.

or if not by nationality...maybe by theatre

plus a big all-in-one pack for newcomers

there will always be small mods ! Smile
this is only for aircraft mods -
it only effects how we arrange the aircraft mods - personly i feel that mod packs are best with individual updates only

My Choice stays the same...

With "Aircraft Mod packs & individual Aircraft Mods & updates" in this 3 seperat Categories.

1. Aircraft Mod packs: this are the one, which are proofed by MrJolly...and he bundles it like he do allready.

2. individual Aircraft Mods: 2 Subcategories... in BETA PLANES / HYBRIDES ...

3. UPDATES: with Comments, Screens, Discousions about 1. and 2. to have an overview.

I agree. Or at least keep the mod pack fully up to date then people can do what they want. To keep it simple you could update the big pack once a week and if people didn't want to wait they could install the incremental update.

Kind of on the same subject...is there a way to lock a post but have the poster be able to edit it? One of the confusing things is when you come to the board and in the download section you see 5 posts with new updates so you have to go through them to make sure it's just people posting comments and not the author posting a mod update. I think if you could make it to where no replies were allowed but the author could update his original post as necessary it would be helpful (and it would keep all the discussions about the mods in the discussion forum where they belong).

thanks!!

I voted for B MrJolly. I figured that people might want to pick and choose which aircraft they want. But after thinking about it, I realize what a pain in the butt this all must be. If it's easier to just lump them all together into one big download, then go that way. Whatever is easiest for you to do is fine with me. After all, Oleg didn't really give us a choice either. I sure appreciate all your hard work, and that of all the others who have contributed to this effort. Thank you very much. Smile

Wouldn't an incremental update be the same as releasing aircraft individually?

I vote for small, individual updates. That way people can pick and choose the aircraft that they want, rather than be forced to download a whole lot of stuff they will probably never use anyway.

hiya
no it wouldnt because with updates they would soon be included into the mod packs & therefor not stay as individual downloads

Something I realized last night is I think you have to do one big update. The reason for this is that when you play coops if you have a plane installed but somebody doesn't, you and another player could both pick the same aircraft and one of you gets kicked on mission launch. Here is what I mean:

Player A has no planes installed
Player B has F156 Storch installed

Player A sees this planelist to choose from when coop starts:
BF109
BF109
BF109
BF109
P47
P47
P47
P47

Since there is a F156 in the mission, and player B has it installed, he sees this planelist to pick from:
BF109
BF109
BF109
BF109
F156 Storch
P47
P47
P47
P47

Now player A chooses the 1st P47 (5th plane in list) and player B chooses the first P47 which is the 6th plane in HIS list. However, to player A, it looks like player B picked the 2nd P47 because that is the 6th plane in HIS list. When mission starts one of them will be kicked to an observer role (basically the view you have in a coop after you have ejected/died). When you are picking planes, the game apparently doesn't look at which plane you're in, it just looks at which number in the roster you are.

The other screwed up part is that if Player B picks the F156 Storch it will show on player A's side that B picked the 1st P47. This makes it where player A has to pick another plane (say the 3rd P47) but when mission starts you will have an idiot AI in the lead P47.

This isn't as big a deal when your flying with friends but when you are trying to host coops it turns into a freakin' circus when 30% of the people get kicked on start (everybody always picks the lead or element lead for whatever plane they want to fly).

I like being able to pick and choose what mods I have installed. Individual packs work for me.

The problem Oilburner mentions is real, especially where it applies to multicrewed planes. It can be managed, however, by the mission maker, by placing the mod planes last.

Also, Oilburner is assuming that anyone joining the coop will be using the modded version, which is not the case all the time.
