Planelist arrangement tutorial and Planelist BETA Mod - Willy - 19.01.2008

This is a quick three part tutorial on 1.How to change the position. 2.The name. and 3.Whether or not an aircraft is listed in the Quick Mission Builder (QMB) aircraft list.

All the nesserary files and their file structures are available in this Beta aircraft list mod here http://www.speedyshare.com/332893134.html

1. How to change the listed position.

You'll need an air.ini file located in this path MODS/planelist/com/maddox/il2/objects

If your still useing the "old" wrapper the path is Files/com/maddox/il2/objects
and com/maddox/il2/objects/air.ini would also need to be added to your filelist.txt

As it appears that some other mods have included an air.ini file, it may be prudent to run a search in your Mods or Files folder or both if your installed that way for air.ini before you start with this mod, to avoid clashes.

Open the air.ini file with a text editor, I use "EditPad" but Notepad or Wordpad will do fine. Scroll down and find the aircraft you want to move, for this little tutorial I've chosen to move "Rechkalov's P-39Q-15" available with this great mod (The link is inoperative)

Highlight and "cut" the whole line out...(may require a different technique in Notepad?)

Scroll and find the place you want to locate the aircraft, go to the end of the previous line and hit "enter" one time to give some space

Paste in the line you just cut out

Save the air.ini file and fire up IL2 to see the results. The 3 blade prop and cool default skin by defrag on a Kamikuza template are additional addons I've made myself.

Fine but the name doesn't fit so good, oh well...on to part two.

Part 2 - Willy - 19.01.2008

2. How to change the name of an aircraft in the plane list.

For this we need to edit a file called "plane_ru.properties" that comes with the most exellent "sound mod" which you most likely have, latest version available here (The link is inoperative)

I'm unsure as to wheather this file comes with the "MOD Activator" found here (The link is inoperative) but either way as I mentioned above all needed files and folders are in the download at the start of this tutorial.

So with our text editor we need to open "plane_ru.properties" located in MODS/--whatever you called your soundmod--/i18n In my case this is D:\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\A1_BaseSoundMod93\i18n

Or if your still useing the "old" wrapper the path is Files/i18n/plane_ru.properties

Scroll to the plane whose name we want to change, for us it's "Rechkalov's P-39Q-15". N.B. unlike the "air.ini" file, the order of "plane_ru.properties" has no effect on anything and appears to have just been added to as IL2 developed.

Edit the right hand side entry, like this, N.B. you can name this as you please, I just went for a name that fitted in well with the others.

Save the plane_ru.properties file and fire up IL2 to see the results.

Job done, almost, part 3 to follow shortly

These kinds of nuggets of wisdom would do well in some kind of IL2 modding wiki... it would be great to assemble all the info in one place, in a more formal structure, with some kind of search and index.

- Ekull - 19.01.2008

Your instruction are clear but it fails to work here both ways (file/mod)

Good idea although I think it would take a bit of doing.

Part 3 Show or No-Show - Willy - 19.01.2008

3. How to set an aircraft to show or no-show in QMB

For this part of the tutorial I've opted to bring the Fw-190A-8 Mistel to life in the QMB. To do this we need to open the air.ini file again with our text editor.

Scroll down to the Fw-190A-8 Mistel and delete the NOQUICK text highlighted in the following screenie

Adjust the tabulation by adding 7 spaces to keep things tidy

Save the air.ini file and fire up IL2 to see the results.

It's that simple

Ok, while we're at it the opposite is also true. If you dont want an aircraft listed in the QMB, like the Lerche for eg.

Just type in NOQUICK in the right place

Save the air.ini file and fire up IL2 to see the results.

And there it was gone...Lerche no more, easy.

I'd prefer it if some clever person removed it's cockpit and turned the Lerche into a V2, we have a V2 model kicking around already within IL2, but that's another story.

Mmmm...well I've tested it both ways at this end and it works just fine.

Edit; I just downloaded it and installed it as per the readme and it works just fine, Axis aircraft listed first as advertised.

For the BETA mod to work you must have a folder Planelist_Axis_1st in your Mods folder, not the folder Planelist_BETA_mod ?

Not sure how I can help without more information :?:

Thanks Willy.

I can not get this to work. Could you help.

I'm using sound mod ver .92 but I can't find air.ini anywhere in my IL2 directory. I've checked both locations you mentioned (they don't exist) and I've done a search for air.ini (and couldn't find it). I then extracted air.ini from files.SFS and placed it in IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\files\Planelist\com\maddox\il2\air.ini and added
files/Planelist/com/maddox/il2/objects/air.ini to filelist. I then moved the P39Q15 but it still shows up in the old spot. Could you please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Fixed my installation - Ekull - 20.01.2008

Ok it not neither of our faults because I've found the new (and Great) destruction mod load its it own air.ini file first. So i just renamed its air file e.g. "air-backup.ini".

This new plane list is a gem just a few tweaks and no more hunting for that plane, more time getting shot down Big Grin

Yes, my mistake

As your still with the "old wrapper" and use the files and filelist you don't need /Planelist/ in your path. Your path should just be

Files/com/maddox/il2/objects

and com/maddox/il2/objects/air.ini would also need to be added to your filelist.txt

This is due to my typo in the tutorial, I'll edit it right away. Sorry for any hassle and thanks for the heads up Smile

Glad you got it working Big Grin

Interesting that it should clash with the destroy or destruction mods as I have downloaded both prior to posting this tutorial and neither had air.ini files in them.

However after having a scan around the only mods I can see that released an air.ini file are the flyable glider mods supplementary mods for making the glider appear in the QMB list. So anyone with these and this beta mod are liable to clash.

Thanks for the feedback, I think I might have to adjust the initial post to include this.

- Hot Space - 20.01.2008

Now this is just brilliant 8)

I can now place my aircraft where I wish too.........many thanks for this m8 8) Big Grin 8)

- Bee - 20.01.2008

Excellent! Now the 109Z, Lerche and other RRG wet-dream obscenities are right down the bottom of my list Smile
