Convert vehicle object into a taxiing aircraft - FltLt HardBall - 02.02.2008

Just an idea I had today - I don't know if anyone else has suggested this. My idea is to take a vehicle object like a truck, give it a static aircraft body, and have it taxi around an airfield (following waypoints), just like a regular vehicle object would. I don't know whether it would be possible to give it an engine sound and have the propellers operate. Failing that, make something similar using a "convoy" object consisting of a static aircraft and a tractor. that way the aircraft object could be "towed" and it wouldn't need rotating propellers or engine sounds. You could even get some of the new soldier objects to sit on the wing, stand next to the cockpit, or sit on the tailplane.

Another idea would be to use the new bomb static objects and marry them to a train object somehow, so that a tractor could tow a "train" of bombs around an airfield.

I love it. Brilliant idea!

Maybe the running-man as a waypointable object too (wanted that one for years).

Sounds good.

BTW, you wouldnt want to hit a bump would you?

Most likely possible except running engine, I'm not sure about that.

Don't ask for animation, I'm not saying that it would be impossible but it's definitely not very easy to do it. But even without animation it's very convincing especially when you look from cockpit.

I made one platoon for test and flying low over them was one of most impressive things I saw in Il2, You wouldn't believe how much it mean to see people moving on the ground. Populating bases with people gives completely new dimension to the sim.

Excellent ideas, all!!

Brilliant ideas. Wonder if the static planes used could have a tga that makes the prop invisible as if it is turning...

of course the sitting and standing men are of the Objects group...which can not move...a bit like putting a stationary vehicle on a moving ship....its going to be left behind Cry

You'd have to attach the two models. It shouldn't be much different than adding the Spitfire slipper tank to the tiger Moth model.

Such a simple but great idea ! Would add excellent air field emersion.

theres got to be a way to modify that object truck that has little guys runing out of it,
imagine the posibilities

for those who fly LOCKON

in lomac they just recently figure out how to increase the traffic and modelers are making new models for cars trucks buses etc. it has no frame rate impact with moderate trafic like in this picture
