Central Mediterranean map - 6S.Maraz - 03.02.2008
Hi,
this is my new project.
Mapalm is co-author of this map, mainly working on ground objects and historical research (but not only).
This is the extent of the new map: includes the prevoius map of Malta and southern Sicily plus a new piece ofSicily (with Agrigento), Lampedusa, Pantelleria and a small part of Tunisia.
Here are some previews of Work In Progress about Pantelleria
General view
Harbour and town
Airfield, made as a custom texture
Now a request: if you have some documentation about airfields and harbours of Tunisia (the area included in the map) could you please share it?
Thank
Maraz

THose Airfields Look GREAT

and thats the way all airfields shoud look like!

yeah, you really got a talent for this

No talent unfortunately, just copied from the real one (aerial picture)
It's a pity that we don't have more textures, so each airfield in a map could have its own one...

Yeah, the texture limit makes more than maybe a couple of these per map impossible.
BTW, how does one create such a texture so it is the right size? The texture tiles are 200m, right, so do you need to make the tga file much larger in pixels? So 256x256 is 200m, 512x512 is 400x400, and so forth? How does it work?

If you add ,2 or ,3 or ,4 to the texture file name in load.ini, this makes the texture larger.
e.g.
Airfield1 = land/summer/pantell-airfields.tga,3
Image file size controls the resolution of the texture (sharp or blurry).

Spud,
As usual with IL2, 512 x 512 = 200m x 200m is too obvious and simple
The method I used to check is to take a screen shot in Google Earth of a specified size, including the distance measuring rulers, and use this as a texture in IL2 to get the measurements. Making the White Horse texture for BoB was the reason I did this as it looked too big, I originally thought 512x512 was 200m.
Some investigative work on texture sizes revealed the following: A basic 512 x 512 .tga texture = 1600m x 1400m in the Enhanced FMB engine with no .ini modifiers. In other words, a 512 x 512 texture is, in map_T, 8 pixels in the x axis and 7 pixels in the y axis!
Unless I have got something fundamentally wrong?

That airbase looks very cool fella. Looking forward to watching this one grow..
Cheers, CrazySchmidt.

I found a very difficult terrain to represent in this map: the Tunisian Sebkha (salt marsh, partially dried).
There are here white areas made of dried salt, for this I tried to make a texture, without much success.
Anyone of the artists here can help me with a suitable texture?
Thanks

The multiplier seems to work the other way around
,2 makes a 2x2 pattern with the texture in the same 1600x1600m box
,4 makes a 4x4 pattern etc
Is it possible to make a texture larger than 1600x1600m?

IIRC The multiplier goes up to 8 (and down to -8 ).

In my trials the only multiplier/divider options which worked were:
2 3 4 5 6 7 8 and -2
other minus options just produced a 1:1 copy
-2 gives you the 2:1 enlargement representing 3200x3200m
