FPS different: modded and original - dimlee - 03.03.2008
Lower fps in modded game compared to original??
After installation of new nvidia driver, I edited conf.ini to get better fps (using IL2Config). It did work, but only with original game version. When I launch modded game, max and average fps are 3 times lower
hock: than in original game.
Did anyone experience the same? Any remedy found? Thanks.
....
4.08m. All mods installed from this site (excl beta-). Wrapper is used. TheBlackDeath.ntrk track has been used as benchmark.

I've found two submods which lowered my fps.
1. the increased visibility distance of the smokes
2. the longer livetime of the flak smoke
#1 is in the file:
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\DAMAGEMOD\Effects\Materials\WhiteSmoke.mat
you need to set
from
VisibleDistanceFar 10000.0 // Float 0.0 - near, 1.0 - far
to
VisibleDistanceFar
3000.0 // Float 0.0 - near, 1.0 - far
#2 is in two files:
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\DAMAGEMOD\Effects\Explodes\Air\Zenitka\USSR_25mm\SmokeBoiling.eff
set '
LiveTime 5.0' (this is the default value, cant remember exact moded value, was around ~3000)
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\DAMAGEMOD\Effects\Explodes\Air\Zenitka\USSR_85mm\SmokeBoiling.eff
set '
LiveTime 10.0' (default value, I use 100)
If you install 4.09b1m it will increase your view distance by aprox. 1 km without fps loss.

Vpmedia, thanks for the hint, but... I didn't install damagemod.
probably I have to do some dirty work: to get rid of all mods and then install again one-by-one.
if I succeed, will report back to this thread.

PROBLEM RESOLVED.
I have resolved the problem with 'clean' install:
have removed IL-2 completely-cleaned registry-removed/updated driver - installed IL-2 again.
Then configured conf.ini with IL2Config for higher performance.
Then installed mods, one by one: Eng Sound Mode, AAA Mod Pack, Map Pack, all the latest versions. Did not install Beta mods.
Final result: FPS is OK now (as high as my outdated system can generate) and no differences between original and modded game version.
I tested FPS after each mod install and have not noticed FPS change. Most probably my earlier problem was caused by one of smaller 'beta' mods.
Lessons learned:
- test performance after each mod installation.
- avoid multi-mod installations.
