Rules for map_F ? Maybe for Clockwatcher... - delvpier - 08.03.2008
Could someone tell me the rules to make map_F ?
Which colors are corresponding to those of map_T ? Is there a way to make it from map_T ?
Or better, is there a way to make it from Microdem like others with Clockwatcher method ?
Did he made a corresponding color table as for map_H and map_T ?
Thanks.
Other thread : I think it could be possible to use Tarawa map to make other atolls maps (Kwajalein, Ulithi...) just by cuting some portions of each map file and pasting it in new files, with some changes of orientation... Am I wrong ? Someone tried it already ?

You have to make your map_F with a bit of an artistic licence. There are no set rules, you just make it so that it matches the colour of your terrain.
What I did is I started from my map_T, and selected areas by colour, then filled in these colours with the shades that corresponded to the area I had selected.
One way of getting a shade is to take a screenshot of the area, then use a blurring tool to get a single colour. After that you use your eyedropper tool to selec that colour and you can use it to fill in the appropriate areas on your map_F.
About using Tarawa and just changing the islands, I did that for the prototype of the Aleutians. I used the files for Hawaii and changed the land masses. Its actually the first trick we used when all of us map modders started.
