Bomber Missions + Formation Flying - BossHawg - 22.03.2008
Hello, i am new to this forum and real new to trying to attempt to make missions on il2. Ever since the AAA mod came out and you were able to fly B-17's i've been itching to make a campaign for all the bomber freaks out there. Well i get everything down to the formations and levels in which the bombers flew at with over 40 bombers, but the problem i am having is that when enemy aircraft come in to intercept a few of the bombers start flying around like they are fighters, even breaking from the formation to go their own route or even turn back around towards home. How can i make it so that the bombers don't even budge when enemy aircraft start to swoop in?

I have been working with the FMB for more than five years now, and I know it can be very frustrating trying to make it work to our requirements....sometimes impossible
of course in real life...damaged planes would lose speed and find themselves unable to keep up with the rest....and then have to go it alone for home.....being easy targets in the process
if the ground attack waypoint for bombers is left as just a ground attack...but not 'set' to a particular target upon the ground...they will level-bomb...and release their bombs so that the first in the stick should hit that point...and then walk on through the target area.... but they will also be distracted from their flight and subsequent waypoints by attack
If you 'set' the ground attack waypoint to a target upon the ground...they will not level-bomb...but will start to glide down before releasing bombs..... as if they are preparing to dive-bomb it.....but they will not be distracted upon their way to that waypoint

yeah thats what i did, i had places a bunch of targets within the city and just had them level bomb around the target area. Its not so much the bombing part that screws them up, its when the fighters come in to intercept the bombers, some of them start doing barrel rolls, decending altitude, break way off from formation and start heading in a different direction. SO as the fighters are attacking your left with bombers all over the map trying to be some sorta super rogue, but a good amount fo them still manage to stay in formation. Oh well, i guess i got some work cut out for me. thxs
