SFX 0.6 or ENG SOUND MOD? - Gambler - 27.03.2008
First off...outstanding work, gents! The sounds in the series always bugged me and your work is one heck of an improvement. Now for my question...is SFX .06 a replacement for ENG SOUND MOD .093 or do they work in tandem?
I installed ENG SOUND MOD 093, then I installed SFX 0.6...are both needed? Also, I seen a post i the Beginner's Guide to rename the Files folder to SOUNDMOD and put it in the MOD folder. But, I also seen a Sticky about not messing with the Files folder. Which is correct?

I think that SFX is the new wrapper version of soundmod, ie: it goes directly into the MODS folder. So in short, it replaces soundmod 0.9x IMO.

Are you 100% sure about that? .. Have a look in your SFX install, and then in your original sound mod version, are they holding the same files?
I wouldn't want to delete one that I apparently don't need because someone says its now redundant..

I am not using soundmod, just sfx. in any case i dont think it has the same amount of files. iirc sfx's goal was to do what soundmod was doing but using less resources, having more quality and everything being more organized. I'd quote the original post by wasy but apparently it's gone :?.
if you don't want to lose soundmod then don't install sfx! it does seem to work the same way however or at least i have sounds in all my planes
woot i found it:

ok what does this mod actually do, i dont understand
This mod give more quality sound for merlin and db605, IN MY OPINION. Using most path some possibilites il2 engine like more accurate samples smoothing and more good dependence between rpm and samples frequency, also it will be use less memory than old soundmod version. You may download and compare this.
Also from the same post:

Mod SFX not compatible with old soundmod... You may make it only manuality...
manual mixing soundmod and SFX (for new wrapper) [...]

I made a copy of my Files folder and placed it in the Mod folder and renamed it SOUNDMOD, as per a post I seen here...will try to find it again and link to it. I still have the Files folder in it's original place as well. I have the latest Wrapper.dll from here as well. I'm just wondering if I can delete the Files folder or not, but as I stated above, there's a post I seen here when I was researching that said something about keep the Files folder...will try to find it again and link to it as well.
FYI, the Wrapper.dll in the SFX 0.6 mod is 3 days newer than the separate downloadable one here that's posted as a Sticky, but the same exact size. But, I wanted to try the Spit Mk I and it recommended the Sticky Wrapper, so I got it..still can't get the Spit to work, though, game CTD's just before it gets to 100% loading...
