Problems with automatic installer calling MrJolly(?)... - Guest - 24.04.2008
Many people (and me) wonders about the fact that automatic installer of files of news planes -like SPITFIRE MK1, NEW BF 110- and New BEAUFIGHTER MK X - Fails to install properly even if all operation 7version of sound ecc., ac-installer update ecc..
only manual install adding lines into air.ini, weapon_ru files ecc. make the job.WHY THIS?
- Please if possible to check and try to solve because of it.
Thank you Admin/s about attention about this situation.

... until mrJolly spot this one ....
If you've respected official AAA mod structure ( MODS folder ...Files folder ) and didn't alter ( rename) any of official mods files (folders) you shouldn't have any problem with installing new planes ( automatic install). Apart from that i assume you did follow install instructions carefully ....
Anyway i believe this thread belongs to mods discussion section and i expect that it will get moved soon ...
BTW , that kind of dramatic demands/requests are not doing any good to anyone ...

Hi Fly_zo, mine was not a dramatic request, may be my style of writing isn't of you taste but it wasn't really with dramatic but a simple advice/request.
About my structure of mod files i think I've always take care of it, but if something is wrong I'm not the only one (look carefully into forum and you'll find them), and even if I'm not a programmer I'm modding this game till the release of this forum and -quite always- I never have problem doing it in the right manner at my first attempt..but not in the latter situation of new slot of planes and this is the reason of my topic; mine was not only a personal request but is/was in the intent of community benefit and I'm disappointed this wasn't take in positive meaning from you m8. :?

first, starting threads in mods download section isn't allowed .... you know that
secondly , keeping mod files in order will not help you if structure isn't respected .... Mods folder with STD folder and files folder at its original location ( gameroot\files) .... If any of that isn't respected manual editing is necessary .
thirdly , if you have beta mods ( and we all have ) there is possibility for conflicts and no installer would help
fourthly, look how many downloads new planes have and how many install issues has been reported ... BTW, I've tested them ( all three new slot mods) on mods clean install ( no betas... only AAA official mods ) without problem
as for dramatic remark goes .... you have tendency to start new threads when ever you have problem .... report it in mods thread or PM author !
and to be known i didn't move this thread ....

I lost the SpifireMKI when Installed the Bf-110 Night Fighter but that was self induced.
I had downloaded the Spifire manually and my buttons file was in the files folder.
When I installed the BF-110-G4 The installer it created the STD folder in the Mods folder
with out the Spitfire MKI in it. I just copied all the Spitfire data from the File folder and that fixed it.
I now just use the self installer with out any problems.

please then could you post a screenshot of the right structure?may be it can help me (and other) of get rid of the problem with automatic installer, thank you.
I apologize if this time I've start the topic into the wrong section fly, but it was only for my mistake and I apologize about this. But if you look my previous topics I've started till the day Mr Jolly wrote not to post in d/l section (about one week after the coming day of AAA Forum) I don't think you'll find any of mine more there.. I feel you're a bit polemic in your answers to me and I don't see the reason: I'm here to relax and enjoy myself like you (I think) so hope this is only a bad impresson of mine. However I apologize to have hurt you or everyone in some way with this my post/request of clarification, but this wasn't my intention; hope this is quite clear now.

... no need for pics ( but if you insist i will post them ...)
AAA official mod structure ( Tim's wrapper wise) :
"Files" folder ( comes with installation of sound mod ) default location:
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\Files
if game has been installed at different location than change path accordingly
"Mods" folder ( comes with installation of any official AAA mod - wrapper wise ) default location :
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\Mods
When installing new slot aircraft you need to follow instructions by the letter ....
1. install AC installer
... during installation process you will be asked to chose sound mod version you are using - chose proper one
it will install buttons file in its right location ( depends which sound mod version you have )
2. install new aircraft mod ( Spit1..Bf110 ...Beau...)
during installation you will be asked to allow plane list to be alphabetically reorganized .... chose YES
* if you want automatic installations for future mods ( plane slots) you must have air.ini alphabetically organized .... otherwise you would be stuck with manually editing all files for every new mod ( slot plane)
it will install mod folder for new plane ( exampl SpitMk1 or ...BF-110-G4) and STD folder with all files needed for game to recognize new slot
STD folder mustn't be altered in any way or installer won't be able to alter files when new mod gets installed ( that is why some users have lost their Spit mod while installing BF-110-G4 ...)
So , if you want new mods to be automatically installed those rules must be respected !
if you have any beta mod installed ( non AAA official ) you may get conflicts ... that is why AAA don't recommend installing such mods to unexperienced users
Is that enough or you still need pictures ?

I'm guessing that falco installs the mods into a temporary folder and then copies the files into his modded game. (This is how I had been doing it until the Beau X install)
Like the restructuring Fly spoke of, doing this prevents the installer from editing the files in the STD folder, so when the files are copied into your modded game folder the air.ini, plane_ru.properties and weapons_ru.properties only contain the entries for the new AC.
Fly - Thanks for the post on the structure it needs to be a sticky on its own. Can you explain why the Alphabetization is optional if it is required for future AC addins?
(BTW, I think many of the old-timers (October and November adopters) still have their renamed "files" folder buried in their MODS directory and this bites us now and then.)

optional is only if you manually install mods .... to keep original planes order in the game
this way there is no need for author to make two install versions .... auto. and manual
Bottom line is if you don't allow alphabetical planes order you will be forced to manually install all future new slot plane mods ....

well, i have it too ( in my main game installation) but as i said that is recommended only for experienced users .... If you are installing mods via auto installer ( directly to game directory) you must respect default AAA mods structure
hope that explains it ....
BTW, i am fly_zo .... cos we have here Fly also ( did great job with some game sounds ...) so to avoid confusion ....

yup , with betas installed you're pretty much left on your own .... no way AAA could guess everyones mods configuration
so until you can figure it out without help you aren't expert ... sorry
