Carrier Cables... - RAF_Magpie - 25.04.2008

Hey guys... I'm playing around with an experiment - a small training map for cadets to learn and practice carrier landings... but on a standard airfield - with a difficult approach/climb out, and short runway...

Obviously, one of the key's of a decent carrier landing is catching a wire... I was wondering, if somone could tell me how to extrapulate the cables from a carrier and put them on a runway, or somehow be able to use that part of a carrier... is there a way? Or could someone have a look at this? I know its a weird one, but it would be very VERY much appreciated.

Cheers guys.

Not that weird. Wink I made a mission like that for our Graf Zeppelin campaign based on the training videos from PF. I used the recon targets to determine if it was a save landing or not Wink

Why not try and set an entire carrier underground instead of an airfield?

But if it doesn't work?

- RAF_Magpie - 25.04.2008

then i would go without. i want a realistic looking airfield.

I would love a training airfield too. I am part of a Naval Squadron, and to have this kind of Training Aid would be so realistic...

Hope someone finds a way.. but I belive that someone could be FC but he is buisy working on other ships..

I think he did isolate the Essex landing deck. Maybe he can build an object like the Test Runways, but with the essex deck onlly at alt. 0. that you could insert on any airstrip...

- RAF_Magpie - 25.04.2008

Yeah FC came to mind too. Ideally, if it could be added as an object in an Actorstatic file it would be ideal... I wish for it to be hard fixed to the base I'm building...

Can any of our wonderfully talented modders have a wee looksee at this?

I would be very, very appreciative if you guys could Smile

Please?

- Zorin - 25.04.2008

I think the best way would be to couple it with the testrunway 4, the invisible one. That way it would be an independent object, ready to be fitted to any airfield/position the mission builder wants it.

- RAF_Magpie - 25.04.2008

Also a very good idea, but I am very keen to have it as a object placeable with the Enhanced FMB too...

That's the tool the map builders work with, right?
