How to create a new airfield #32948983754 - Thermikus - 25.04.2008

OK
maybe im just blind or whatever, but after 2-3weeks of searching i havent found the right thread:

How the hell can you integrate new airfields??
There are so many topics but we need a step-by-step instruction!
I talked with some other guys here they told me to open this topic...

The only thing i found and its very close to the answer is the FMB+ whery new objects are integrated, like parts of the runway and the apron. But you cant place the homebase-"status" on your airfield.

im sorry if there was already a thread but i did not found something that could really explain me how to proceed.

Cheers

~S~m8,
Welcome to the map modders forum 8).

I'm not sure what your current map making knowledge level is, so I'll start at the beginning.

1. Go through the map making tutorials which are stickied at the top of this forum or, better still, join one of the existing map making Teams who post here on the forums. I'm sure our helpful moderator, Fly-zo, will be glad to assist you in your search. Wink Zo
2. Download and install the map making toolset: (The link is inoperative) MAP_MODS/map_FMB_tools.rar.
Repeat step 1, as required.
3. Assuming you already have a map to work on (new map, or defaulot one you plan to mod) when it comes to airfields, they're basically built in 4 stages:
a. Open the Map Editor version of the FMB (FMB+), select the height tool, select a tile size, and use your mouse wheel to level the ground where you want to build your airfield.
b. Lay down the appropriate airfield tiles, that come in several different variants, e.g. "Pacific Sand Plates", "Ground Plates", PCP Plates, etc. Within each set of tiles you have end plates, runway sections, taxiway sections, etc. to choose from. The best way to place them is in 3D mode, so that you can ensure sections align properly.
c. Install "Runway" objects at one or both ends of the runway tiles you created earlier. The arrows should point in the direction of desired take-off.
d. Install and connect spawn points and taxipoints, which are appropriate to the airfield configuration you have constructed. These can be found in the "Airdrome Points" object pull-down menu of the FMB.
e. Test viability of your Airdrome Points by loading up the default version of the FMB, and building missions to see how the AI performs. Pull out some hair, and start fine-tuning what you have built.

Quote: Pull out some hair

That's the first thing I did when I opened the map tools, and also many times as I've readthrough all the maps threads these last 6 months! Big Grin

Still pulling.....

hi, and welcome Big Grin

i have only one advice : read carefully tools readme's .... don't be like me

please note that FMB+ and unlockFMB ( comes with the tools ) are two different things ... second one is one you'll need for airports .

Before even starting with all of that get yourself sfs extractor ( Tims tools section of AAA) and extract all mapsxxx.sfs files (game root ) into one folder ....

to get all game maps files place this filelist.txt into sfs extractor folder :
