In addition, I offer my complete assistance to those working on making the KTO possible, in anyway I can. Checkyersix, if you require assistance with your Korea map, I'm all yours.

newer jets - jsal22 - 26.04.2008

i would but none of them work on my graphics card and im to frickin poor to buy another one

- ROSOBORONEXPORTCORP - 26.04.2008

You can run Il-2 but not Mig Alley? I can't think of any newer Korea sim.

That may be the case ... but that is 1) not our fault and 2) last time I checked this was a WW2 flight sim. We only have so many people working on mods. Mods take alot of time. I would rather have new planes like Helldiver and Devistator and new Lightning variants or new Japanese aircraft which the PTO DESPERATELY need than completely turn IL2 into a jet sim. Just because you don't want to buy a graphics card means we have to make a new game out of an old one for you? Who do you think we are? Magicians?

There are so many improvements we can make to planes that are already here, like making all gunner positions for B-17 variants and B-24 or fixing Center of Gravity issues ...

I would rather see more work on mods that are closer to the original idea of IL2 than totally taking IL2 to a plastic surgeon and makeing it a half assed Korea sim. IL2 was designed for WW2 combat. I am not knocking anyone doing any of those mods, but I would personally like to see a map of Japan or the Phillipines instead of Greenland or Iceland or what have you ...

Nobody take anything personally. I just got a virus off my PC and I am tired and cranky ... :?

Point taken Scharnhorst, but I think this request is pretty reasonable. Now that we can add new A/C there's really no limit to what we can do. I actually have a Korean war sim (Strike Fighters). It's fine an all but I'm still making Korean planes and maps for Il-2. Why? Because Il-2 is the best flight-sim out there. The feel of flying in Il-2 is so immersive and...real. Strike Fighters is great and all, but when I fly it I just feel like I'm playing a game. For all its' faults, Il-2 is as close to the real thing as I've ever felt, and I think it's not unreasonable to want to fly the planes I want to play, or re-enact the history I want to enact.

There are plenty of WW2 fighters I'd like to see as well, like the devastator, swordfish, Ju-88 variants, B-26, a whole slew of them. It's criminal some of the planes that were left out of this sim, and telling that no matter how many other games I try (CFS2, Strike-Fighter, Lock-on, Dawn of Aces, Battle of Britain) I still come back to this one.

Now that we have this wonderful world of mods, we can finally make this sim ours, which has been the missing piece all along - community empowerment. Everyone is going to get what they want, sooner or later, and this will be Il-2's true time to shine.

If the modders diversify into other genres it will take forever to see improvements to existing aircraft or even introduce new much needed WWII critical planes..
That said, they are the modders and they will follow their own fancies, which is only correct of course.. but I wince everytime I see threads for Korea, or marginal aircraft that never got off the drawing board, or test/prototype aircraft........
Then I realise we will never get all those second world war beauties.. and despair kicks in. Sad

I agree with only one and a half points with this post trooper.

Quote:they are the modders and they will follow their own fancies, which is only correct of course

CY6 originally started his Korea map, for Korean war scenarios. He then started making Korean war aircraft. He has also done WWII aircraft. Personally I am very greatful for these. I wouldnt get too impatient regarding getting all the much needed WWII types, I have faith that we will acquire these, at an increasingly rapid pace.

I am all for the development of pre, and post, WWII aircraft, upto and no further than the Korean Conflict - which incidently, used a lot of WWII aircraft, such as much needed late war American aircraft. Ie, P-51-D-25 (ie, the rocket carrying Mustang), B-26, etc etc. Not to mention the early jets.

Now I understand your taste doesnt run there, but they are a very important part of aviation history, and there is an increasing fan base for the usage in the game. I myself lay claim to being part of that fanbase. Yet I agree withnot doing the drawing board jobbies that never saw the light of day. BUT if the modders want to do them, then by all means.

As I said above, I wouldnt want to see development past Korea. We could do with a Meteor, as we could a vampire. The Sabre and Mig-15, and the F-80-C thats being done, and possibly a Panther - for these scenarios; which are just as interesting and deserve as much focus as any other conflict.

Yes IL2 is a WWII sim, but she has a fantastic physics and flight model, and an ever increasing, talented fanbase.

So, why not delve into Korea, and earlier? I reckon it would be bloody nice to have choices from a Albatross DIII to a North American F-86 Sabre.

Development, is the name of the game here.

- Trooper117 - 27.04.2008

It would be nice to have everything aviation past and present, but thats in a perfect world isn't it..
if a pukka Korean game came out I'd probably get it, just as I'm waiting for KoTS for a proper WWI flight game..
There are so many areas in our game where we 'make do' with pretend aircraft for many of our campaigns etc..
One really fantastic part of our modding world here is that at last, all the maps that we need to complete the historical accuracy of WWII aviation warfare, are gradualy emerging.. Unfortunately, we enter the scenario where we will have the historic maps but not all of the vital aircraft needed to populate them.. Thats why I get sad when diversification means our modders skills are pursuing other avenues.
Just as you would if you suddenly had an accurate Korea map, but not the mainstay aircraft to do it justice, as the modders have switched their focus to the falklands war instead...
