Check the pictures out.. Earlier Spits have differences in filter designs, radiator and oil cooler plus exhaust stacks.. yet in the pic, an early Spit type has the later type exhausts signifying a later Merlin engine....................

The Mk.Vb (JH-C) had the type of exhaust typically seen protruding from Mk.I/II's (Although, still a different engine), whereas the Mk.II in the pictures is using a different Merlin, as everyone has said.

Look at the spitfire coded: BM957, Thats a spitfire Mk.V. Look at the exhaust manifolds. Notice there only 3?
Now look at the Mk.II. Notice there are more? Thats a better Merlin engine in there. proberly one from a Mk.IX, But there im not a expert.
EDIT: corrected Mk.I to Mk.II. See im no expert
