High altitude mod? - Craterman - 01.05.2008

I usually stay at fairly low altitudes in IL2, but the other day I was offline and chasing some 109's that went up to about 24,000ft. Damn! This awesome game looks like crap up there! Is there any high altitude mods to help the high altitude sky?

- FA_Cheech - 01.05.2008

Update to 4.09b1, and use long range visibility settings in conf.ini

- Leady - 01.05.2008

I second this request as some of us out there end up killing our FPS if we use the long view distance feature of 4.09.

Cheers

How do we do this? Didn't see "long range visibility" in the conf.ini. Saw "view" & "max view".

- Brophmeister - 02.05.2008

Are the mods 4.09B compatible?

Also, I would like to see a mod that gives the right aircraft the right performance at the right altitudes. The Me262 struggles to stay above stall speed at only 15,000 feet.

Code:
LandGeom=3

Absolutely. Like the Ta 152 H, with which the other day i couldn't even reach 12000 Meters with engine on max and boost enabled. or the Me-262, which struggles to stay above stall speed at 30000 feet (not 15000 lol), it should be easily climbing at even 11000 to 12000 meters.
Altitude performance is sooo off in this game. But i suspect that this is due to a serious flaw in the FM of the whole game, like most planes have the right speed at one altitude and the wrong speed above and below. And the FM seems to be pretty complex and linked to various parts of itself, making adjustments in one region affect others. So i fear that if those aircraft's FMs were adjusted for up there, they would be just wrong in the lower altitudes.
Just my 2 (

+1000000

I suggested it some time ago.

We can't change existing FM, so maybe we can create new one. HIGH ALTITUDE FLIGHT MODEL.

Speeding 750 km/h in Ta-152 at 12000 meters is one of my dream.

Online fights at altitudes over 25k are great. A whole other game up there. 8)
Only poblem is, the altmeter modelling craps out at 30k - just where the jug comes into it's own Cry

I think the thread starter was meaning the dark dark blue sky at +6000m. The sky does get darker as you go higher but not as dark as we see it ingame (almost black on my rig).

Cheers

Maybe if the sky colour was shifted away from the Indigo end of the spectrum we'd have more realistic sky colour at any altitude.

- Craterman - 02.05.2008

Yes, I was refering to the sky color. The sky looks great at low altitude but departs from reality at about 22,000ft. The sky turns way too dark and stars pop out everywhere. I've been above 40,000ft in RL and the sky doesn't look near that dark. I don't recall seeing all there stars out either.

Changing the sky color at altitude would be great!
