360 degrees of head movement - Can_Goose - 03.05.2008

I have posted this before and was dismissed without much discusion, but I still think if we had 360 degrees of head movement in the cockpit, it would improve the realism of the game, Yes no pilot can rotate his head a full 180 degrees, but the videos I have seen of pilots in the cockpit show them twisting and arching there backs to get a better rear veiw. Something that we can't do in Il2, 360 degrees of head movement would compensate for this deficiancy and give a more realistic feild of veiw. There is nothing more annoying then looking over your shoulder and then suddenly head movement stops dead and you can still see cockpit glass extending off the edge of the monitor. The earlier version of Il2 had 360 degrees of veiw and I did find it distracting when I would see the rear seat in front of me, but you learn to avoid this and use the feild of veiw which is natural to you.I challenge one of you modders to try it as an experiment and prove me wrong, but I think you would end up agreeing with me that it is an overall improvment in Il2 in terms of realism.

The first mouse 6 DOF mod and i believe the first Track IR 6 DOF mod had that 'feature'.
But it was more like a bug, a variable that was not set. So if you manage to find either of these mods, you have that feature in there.
And i found it a bit liberating too to be able to look further back. Sometimes i found myself looking straight back to track a bandit, it was a bit strange, but it helped a lot.

I don't think that pilots who are strapped in are able to turn around their torso much, but there should at least be a bit more FOV to the rear. But i can perfectly live with what we have now, i wouldn't want to miss the features of the newest 6DOF mod.

Well... I know from personal experience; that wearing a four point harness or five point, even in a GA environment - its very difficult to check behind you... and thats in a bubble top low-wing aerobatic jobbie. I'd imagine that it would be considerably worse with the Razorback style of aircraft.

So I personally would not like to see this come to pass, as IMHO it could & would be considered a cheat.

I don't think it will make any difference, its not a cheat, as you can do this in game with the mouse.. it's the same as saying trackir is a cheat if you don't have it and someone else does!
How can it be considered a cheat if on the server you are on they are using wonder woman view, or they have enabled externals???... Horses for courses as they say.

Trooper, are you really getting 360 head movement with your mouse? I seriously doubt it, unless you have the earlier 6DOF mod which had it...???
