highrise meshes... - RAF_Magpie - 05.05.2008

Hi guys,

This one's particuarly for the guys who are whizzes at manipulating meshes... Could a building mesh be made into a high-rise style building? Add a bit of an atmosphere to the larger cities, etc?

Can this be done? If so, and if you can get the chance, could you post a manipulated mesh/cloned and manipulated mesh? It would be a great addition 8)

Anyway, I know you guys are busy, but just if you get a chance Smile

cheers,

Mag's

That would be pretty nice...
In addition such tall buildings should have high visibility distance, it'd be pretty disheartening to see them poping up at 3 Km distance as the bulk of il2 objects do.

This would be rather pointless for Europe during WWII. Only few buildings (~10) were of the high-rise type measuring up to roughly 70m.

True, but bombing the living crap out of New York is always entertaining....

Yes, for WWII Europe. But its not the point. We have a ton of new maps coming, and doubtless countless more coming. For my map for example, I kinda need a lot of higher buildings. Others will to.

as its just a quick thing il take a look now, il post back in 5 mins

nope sorry its not. I've eaxtracted the files and they all have the same files for each building. The only openable (if thats a word) only has collision data listed. Nothing about editing msh files.

Il take a look through some other files but its not hopefull Cry

You need to edit mesh files to change size of buildings. They are single mesh objects and work with them is not as easy as with multiple mesh objects. Although even if you work with multiple mesh objects you will have to edit meshes if objects are big enough.

Problem is not so obvious with planes because their parts are to small to cause trouble.

If its possible to "tile" the skin rather than have it stretched, that would be perfect.

Some basic Flat roof objects of about 3 storeys would be useful too.

Did post this elsewhere, but HQ_JP02 and HQ_US are the same model at different scale, so may be some clues there.

I'll take a look at these objects,I know how to change first LOD but I'm still having trouble with other LOD's. I can change them but it's more of a guessing game than proper work.

Tiling the skin is not possible IMO and even if it is you will still need to edit mesh files to do some other things.

I did take a look/compare in a hex editor and made a few guesses, but object was a no show in FMB.

Maybe have to wait in hope for a converter. Fired up 3ds max the other day (another learning curve to contend with  )

Quick example with Crimea barn

Naturally object can be stretched in any other direction and its shape can be completely changed.

What can be seen on pictures is just a first LOD, same work have to be done for other LOD .

wonderful idea magpie!

- lowfighter - 07.05.2008

This looks promising Big Grin Is it possible to change also the poping up distance?
