Server Client Mod,is it possible to disable the F6 key? - Spidermonkey - 09.05.2008

I know there are a few servers out there that have forever requested this ability. It allows the flying of external shots, but would stop the F6 bashers, meaning they would actually have to use their eyes rather than the F6 exploit of locking on to the nearest enemy, stopping any surprise attacks.
It takes no skill on the pilots part, and disadvantages anyone trying to actually attack an EA.

Is it possible to have the simple Server side Mod to disable the F6 key during the game online?

Cheers, SM

I'm not sure this is possible at our current state.

The server could send a mission parameter to all players that says to disable F6. And it would be very easy to create a CLIENT side mod that would check for that parameter and disable F6 on the local machine. The problem is that it would only affect those who have the mod installed. I don't know of any way for the server to force a non-modded client to disable F6.

This will easily be possible though, if we can figure out some way for the server to enforce which mods are required (sort of a reverse CRT=2).

Enforcement would be another issue. Currently, it's possible for servers to force, for example, a netspeed for players at time of connection, but there is nothing to stop the player from changing it afterwards.

The problem with this F6, is that it is bundled with all the external views under one difficulty setting, i.e. No Outside Views. Turning that difficulty setting ON disables ALL outside views, not just F6. If it were possible to isolate the various external views, and create separate difficulty settings for each one, then you could choose to disable only F6 if you wanted.

Would that then require both client side and server side mods? I don't know.
