Reticle help - ROSOBORONEXPORTCORP - 10.05.2008

Hello,

I've been helping Lefty with the Yak-7 "no gargot" cockpit. Things are going well, but I had to shift the cockpit forward using the "frame" section of its *.him file.

This had the effect of somehow misplacing the Z_Z_MASK.msh from its proper location. This means that the reticle/cross-hair is visible even when it is outside of the gunsight. Does anyone have advice about how to properly place it (difficult seeing as it is invisible)?

Also what do items with the parent being _ROOT_ such as [Z_Red1] etc. do?

Thanks

S!

For the Cockpit the ROOT is the base attachment point. In your case the Frame is attached to the ROOT.

When you changed the string of numbers in the .him file to move the frame, everything attached to the frame moves with it- but things attached to the ROOT, such as ZZ_Mask do not move and have to be adjusted separately.

To make the positioning of the Mask easier, I like to make it visible. You can do this by finding this line in Mask.mat

Color Scale 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0

and Changing it to

Color Scale 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0

Make a backup of the original to be safe.

now the mask should be visible and more easily positioned. When you are finished, change back to Color Scale 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0

The Zred and ZGreen are panel lights.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck with your project,

Poncho

Thank you for the assistance.

I've created a new cockpit (to avoid conflicts) and correctly positioned it etc. The one remaining problem is that the reticle/cross-hair floats in the middle of the air. How do I properly prevent the *.tga from being rendered outside of the gunsight?

Thanks again, S!

ROSOBORON, That sounds like in the process of moving things around that [ZZ_Mask] might have gotten behind [ZZ_Reticle] in the hier.him file.

The Mask should be closer to the pilot than the Reticle, this will prevent the Reticle from appearing outside the gunsite.

Good Luck
