boomerang - zeppo - 11.05.2008

i think we sud go for a boomerang the only aussie fighter of ww2 lol

- vanir - 11.05.2008

It was actually a pretty good one, just a bit behind the times which move pretty quick in wartime and pretty slow in countries with small industrial capacity. It's basically an F4F-4 with a Spitfire b/c-wing armament that looks like a cross between a Buffalo and a P-36 (unfortunately it entered service in the age of the Corsair, Lightning, Thunderbolt and Hellcat).

So you could use a H-75A-4 as a base for a start (F4F FM and Spit Vb WM). Bit of a tweak here and there, and Bob's your uncle. He might've also slept with your sister but she did wear that dress.

+1 for the plane

- Trooper117 - 11.05.2008

Is it historicaly correct, if it was shot down it just bounced right back into the air again??

Hmmm... Wings from SBD, fuselage and tail modified (shorter a bit) from Curtiss 75 Hawk, cannons from Spit. Engine... dunno, maybe C75 or SBD, any ideas?

- char_aznable - 12.05.2008

This 'emergency fighter' had wings, tail and rear fuselage parts in common with CAC Wirraway, Australian made version of T-6 Texan\Harvard. I think that R-10 wings could be more similar... If you desperately want this plane

- RAF_Leigh - 12.05.2008

if we can get this plane we need this sound

if i knew how to mod i would but sadly i dont Tongue

Here's one from No.5 sqn RAAF, looks like a few bullet holes in the rudder. Hey wait a minute...is that..? Why yes, I think it is, Bougainville in the Slot.

What about a Hurricane wing, would that be easier to get the guns right with? They'd be a good approximation and has the right sort of flaps and all that. An F2A pit methinks.

Does the F4F supercharger sound the same as Leigh's vid? The PW-R1830 Twin Wasp was being made locally for the Beaufort and so this was used. Also I like the non-perforated exhaust shown below better, don't you?

Whew, just browsing a local aircraft restoration site, looking at a nice Mirage III they're doing and well, I remember seeing those in service when at E.Sale AFB, I was there the day the very first Hornet arrived with its two F-111 escorts. In the early hours of the morning (still well dark and before wake up time), you gently came to the land of the living to the sound of afterburning Mirages taking off for their bomb runs (the barracks was right beside the runway...good one fellers  but hell I loved it).

- zeppo - 12.05.2008

the boomerang wing has to have the swept back look i woodnt think the guns wood b a problem seeing what a great job the lads did with the me410 the engine was a pratt@whitney r 1830 s3c4g twin wasp 14 cyn two row radial 1200 hp max speed 296 i think is a sweet wee plane lol

- MurrayCod - 10.05.2009

i know this is an old thread - but a boomerang to fly would be a great addition to the Il2 hangar (Kokoda map)
