Announcing 'Die Alpen' - zipzapp - 12.05.2008

I choose that area because we don't have it.

Mapsize is 4128*1824 pixel or 825,6km*364,8 km. 'The Slot' is a little bit bigger, but i have more mountains;-)

'Die Alpen' covers the whole Alps and a little bit more than that exept a little part of the french alps. A train from the Vosges to the south-east of the map without any halt needs 37h15m, fmb says.

The mountains are limited to 4000m, but that doesn't bug so.

All rivers and lakes are above zero. Handmade bridges can be used bei running trains and cars in coops.

Release date will be in, lets say, about two weeks ;-) Hope you will enjoy the map somewhen, although the area has llittle or no military relevance in WWII history.

Some pictures (Hope this works):

Whole map

Mountains. Snow. River.

Lago d'Iseo. Island. Now trees, fields and towns yet.

Martigny, Switzerland

Some Grossdorf. There also will be some Framekillcities.

The danube winding through some hills. Rails and roads are a weak point of the game.

Romantic adriatic airport.

Secret airport at 3960m. You need a warm soup here.

Airport at 1250m. Better turn right after take off. Not easy to land here. Jets dont start for some reason.

Adriatic cliffs.

Everything is looking much better in the game. Clear views are stunning.

WOW!
If you can pull this off, it would be a map to behold...
Then aggain many people doubted the Slot would even work.. and it

- folgore83 - 12.05.2008

wow wow wow ! Confusedhock:

great idea !! + 1 !

- fido - 12.05.2008

looks like we need some civilian aircrafts :-)

- Metatron - 12.05.2008

Cool!

Not that historically irrelevant! We can stage some Swiss vs German dogfights. It often happened!

Dogfighting in the mountains is great fun. Does anyone remember the part in Flatspinman's Kondor campaign where you hunt smugglers? Smile

- Skunkmeister - 12.05.2008

Very cool! I actually wanted to do something like this, but I have way too many other projects with Team Pacific.

If you have questions, don't be afraid to ask.

- Monguse - 12.05.2008

Just awesome!

I do know for a fact I'll personally be needing the Udine valley areas and at the very least flights over Venice.

- fabianfred - 12.05.2008

Flying in the mountains is certainly more fun than over flat countryside....my Thailand/Burma/Indo-China map has plenty too...

I want to have a go at the Himalayas later too.....

Is the game limited to 4000m then?

None of the inland water on my map is at sea-level either, so I coudn't use the bridges from the FMB.

- Jabo - 12.05.2008

Yes! Yes! I was just thinking of this last nite while looking at Wallpaper of the Matterhorn.

Your "secret airport" reminds me of some very special airports we had in Switzerland, in mountain zones...

Planes were parked in the mountains, and there was just the runway outside...
