Burma_Central-Map wip -
CzechTexan - 14.05.2008
Hello everyone! I'm here to introduce my map project titled Burma_Central.
I'll post pics later. It's basically square and covers the area from Chittagong to Mandalay (west to east) and from Mandalay to Toungoo (north to south).
Currently I have maps H, T, and C made with GIMP and maps are 17.5 GB.
Does the size sound right?
I ran into a problem with the scale. pixels= 2618x2222
This would make map C= 10472x8888
When I try to resize the scale for map_C I get the message "You are trying to create an image with a size of 1.5 GB." Scaling the image to the chosen size will make it use more memory than what is configured on "maximum image size" in the preferences dialog (currently 128mb).
Also, I'm new at using GIMP and a newbie with PSP. It took me a while to learn how to put all three maps as layers and crop them to the same size. I was able to save each type of map (H,T,C) but it still says each one has three layers. Is this OK or is there a way to make it one layer?
I knew this project would be difficult and time consuming before I started. I just wanted to try and see if I could do something like this and see just how "easy" it really is. I'm sure there will be many more questions in the future and I hope some of you can help.
Burma is still a forgotten front, even in IL2, so maybe this map will shed more light on it.

Welcome to the Club! 8)
There is some seriously wrong with your pictures. Map_c.tga should be in tga format and 256 colours (8 BitsPerPixel) and should be like 1,5 M. So
1. Check your format/size, must be Targa=tga
2. Read the tutorials carefully.
3. I did have huge problems, when i started, so dont give up! I been there!
4. Keep asking questions.

Just a hint on PSP, I notice that saving a tga with PSP adds an extra Kbyte. Simply open with Gimp and re-save with no compression.
In PSP you can select the layer you want as visible and "Save Copy as" xxx.tga

I presume you mean that map c/t/h are 17 mb not gb
Gimp does not handle large files very well...I do what I can in photoshop first then finish off in gimp.
My map just squeezes in Rangoon in the West and also covers the Toungoo area North as far as Pyawbwe ... so our maps should go together well
I am working at a 3:4 scale though so my map h/t are 3568x3696 making map c as 14272x14784

Awesome a Burma Map! Great to see that Prodject at hand!
Any Chances the Map could extend to include Rangoon for early war FLying Tigers Action and late war Operation Dracula stuff?

Hey Dixiecapt. I'd also love to have the rest of southern Burma including Rangoon but it all depends on how big the map files will be. We'll have to wait and see if I can include that area.
I'd love to recreate the missions of 459FS P-38s to Rangoon while they were based at Chittagong as well as the B-24 and B-25 missions to the area. The map area I have now covers the area where most of the action took place from 1942 thru 1944.
