This just isn't working for me. - PapaG39 - 25.06.2008

as per the Mod install process for beginners...

1) fresh install of il2 dvd 1946...works dandy

2) updated to 4.08m patch...works dandy...splash screen shows 4.08m.

3) Installed 4.09 MOD b1m.exe...

4) unzipped the 5 dll's into C/programs/ubisoft/1946 and a folder appeared their with 5 zipped files in it.

5) Installed the Primary Mod, Activator.

game starts with new screen & shows 4.08m & mod activator

The second step calls for installing Mods_4_409b1m_new.zip
I did that, but it still shows 4.08m & mods activator on startup screen

Is this right?

- AIRdomination - 25.06.2008

I'm pretty sure you were supposed to install the Primary mod activator BEFORE installing 4.09 MOD b1m

- PapaG39 - 25.06.2008

Well, this is how it is printed out. It doesn't actually state in what order to install those three items under 1st step..
I have tried the activator first & it didn't make any difference..didn't bring up anything but 4.08m on the startup screen for me.

I have no idea where the pieces are suppose to go..or for that matter..what the pieces even are...

I am trying to follow the directions, but when it doesn't work out I have no idea what i am doing wrong. Very frustrating...

1st step :

Install 4.09 mod patch, to overwrite files is ok.
(The link is inoperative) 409_MOD_b1m.exe
(this is a mod compatible version of the new patch )

+new, alternative graphics dll's available here
(I tested them and they're ok, but dont forget to backup the old ones):
(The link is inoperative)

PRIMARY MOD, ACTIVATOR:
(The link is inoperative)

2nd step:

Install the QuickLaunchPack.
Download > mods_4_409b1m_new.zip (The link is inoperative)

I don't exactly remember, M8. Did it a long time ago. Sorry... Sad

Hey PapaG,
FlatSpinMan here.
Have you checked your game to see if the Slovakia maps and any of the flyable planes actually appear. From memory I think my loading screen says 4.08 even though I have b4.091 or whatever the hell it's called.

I followed the instrutions in vpmedia's New Users Guide thread. It took me a couple of hours but it worked and now adding mods is easier.
For what it's worth, I *think* I did 1946>4.08>Mod activator(0.93 Sound mod actually)>THEN 4.09beta_mods.
I didn't install te new dlls. I don't really know what a dll is.

- PapaG39 - 25.06.2008

Yeah, tried to install the dll's but the instructions make no sense to me.
the way I read it I just unzip the 5 dll's into 1946 folder.. however when I open the 1946 folder up I see a dll folder with 5 zip files in it. The readme says to rename the original dll...
each of these dll's have the same two core & corep4 files..I don't know if I am mjust suppose to unzip them into the game files & each time they just overwreite the files that you put ahead of them or if you are suppose to rename each time... the whole thing makes absolutely no sense to me..

I have no idea what they are about.

there is no slovikia map or any others..just the same old maps.

the builders know what they are doing, but I sure don't.

inside the game folder I now have a new Dll folder, a 1946 folder and a mods folder.

when I get home from work tonigjht I will double check to see if the aircraft are there..I didn't do that before...
It would make more sense to have a wrong **4.08m** instead of the proper one, but I don't know for sure...will double check that..

It does say that Mod Activator is enabled though...

- Nocturnum - 26.06.2008

You shouldn't have a 1946 folder in there - the game folder should BE the 1946 folder.
The Ddll's - it sounds like you'd just choose one pair, try them out and see if they make a difference(to what, I don't know). When you try them out you'd have to rename the original pair to something else. They're not necessary to the mods.

- PapaG39 - 26.06.2008

I have a folder with 5 dlls in it which are all zipped.
2_409beta_dlls.zip
2_core_dll_090208.rar
4_409beta_dlls2.rar
02272008_core_dll.rar
core_dlls_021508.rar
I have no idea what to do with these zipped files or where to put them

I have a il2 Sturmjovik 1946 which has a mods folder with 27 folders within it.

If it is not suppose to be there, what do I do with it?

also have a MOD folder with a STD folder that has a 3do/gui & i18n folders plus a bunch of files with long extension of numbers and letters

there are no directions anywhere on this site that gives me a clue what to do here...

There are about 5 or so "how to" threads, but they are so jumbled up that a person like myself can't get any course or direction out of them...only confusion.

- Murph - 26.06.2008

As far as the dlls are concerned; DON"T keep the file in your Il2 folder!
Extract each of the zipped sets of dlls to it's own folder somewhere else.
Look inside each folder; You should see two files there; il2_core.dll and il2_coreP4.dll.
Go to you main Il2 folder and look for files with the same names- back them up somewhere else.
Then copy one of the sets of new dlls into your main Il2 folder, overwriting the old ones (which you just backed up).
Run the game and see what difference it makes- this is trial and error, they seem to do different things in different PCs.
Clear as mud?

- PapaG39 - 27.06.2008

Those 5 dlls all have the same core type file and there are only 1 ea of the same files in the game so I expect that you are suppose to pick which one of the five that you want & install it.. I took the Nvidia card Dll.

BTW Since the 175.19s came out my 8800GTS is working just fine. Even the Black Death is great.
Just a tiny bit of shimmer on the distant right side where all of those water/island waterways are.
The rest is stunning..
On the slovikia map I can see far distant mountains and valleys where I didn't even know ther was mountains & valleys..lol..

now all I need to do is find the combination of settings that will bring the aircraft itself out a bit sharper so my tired old eyes can pick out the little rascals..
