Adding functions to an axis... - Bearcat - 26.06.2008
Would it be possible to add certain functions, in this case I am thinkng specifically to radiators to another axis. I have an extra slider and truth be told in some planes you cant tell where your radiator is because there is no indicator. I sometimes like to fly wit the Hudlog off, although being able to edit that & shorten n the text is good too...

I second that!
Not that I have got down and dirty and created any mods myself, so I second the request in the spirit of greatest meekness!
The hudlog irritates me quite a bit, and while being able to minimise the intrusoin of the log is nice, being able to assign incremental settings to axes (or a series of buttons, one for each setting) and turn off their log entries entirely would be nicer still.

what stick do you use bearcat?

I use a Hybrid of sorts... I modded my X-45... and I use the MS as my primary stick.. but I have 5 sliders on the X-45.. if you count the X & Y pots.. and the throttle on my MSFFB2.. The stick in the picture is actually FUBAR.. but I managed to get hold of another X-45.. and I just havent modded that one yet.. but I intend to.. for now I just have the sticks on my desk because I use te X-45 stick as a button bay.

Sukhoi!
Nice 'pit' btw.

You say you want to fly with the Hudlog off....The program IL-2 Sturmovik Stab allows you to do this...
- Bearcat - 09.07.2008
Yes I know how to set that in the config file, but that's not quite what I mean with this request. Even if I turned the hudlog off, in certain planes I still would not know where my radiator was... because the radiator is on the bottom side of the plane. Even if the radiator settings could be either changed from the way it is now as a one key toggle as in one key stroke ,
the same keystroke as it is now for R auto,R2,R3,R4 etc..,Rclosed then back to Rauto, to either a moveable lever/butto/knob/gauge (depending of course on what the plane had in reality) in the canopy to let you actually see where your radiator was or when you changed the setting
OR changing the conrol itself so that instead of a toggle it would be more like the power settings, where you can use a keysroke for each increment of the power scale (in a scale of 10% but still) , that way you could band the axis and define each segment of the scalew with a key and put it on a lever, so you could look at the knob or the lever and get a good idea of where your rad settings were.

radiator settings have been a bane to pit builders since inception and would love to see this 'fixed'
here's hoping.
one possible(physical) way round it

is it possible to include radiator position in devicelink outputs?
not the 'full' solution BC is suggesting but maybe doable?

i also fly with no hud log fortunately i have the x52 and i am able to fully program all of the axis commands, for example, i will have flaps on the slider in mode 1 and rad settings on the same slider in mode 2 and brakes on same in 3,( when you switch modes, the settings remain as you left them) so in effect, i have a mode for take off and landing, one for navigation and prop/mix settings and one for combat. this works very well once you get used to it. maybe you might want to think about an upgrade?
you may also be able to use 2x throttle quadrants( if you have 2 ) and set one up in the controls hotas section to work the rad settings etc.
when i fly a plane that dose not represent the settings with a lever in the cockpit, i watch the temp gauges a little more closely

I have everything mappable to an axis on one... except flaps for now... but the radiators only have one control.... and that is a incremental button.. even if it could be changed to > & < radiatore positions.. but as it is now you have to toggle all the way through the settings to get to one setting prior to where yo are now... Understand what I mean? If that could be changed it would be great...

i see now chap, for example rad 10% open to key 1 and rad 50%open to key 5 . that will be a tad hard but i will look into it, may be a while, as i am looking into a more realistic engine sounds through different rev ranges

Exactly!! Then I can band te axis into equal parts and have some idea where my radiator is by looking at the lever...

I second this idea.

If many others have this setup, it's no wonder I get shot down every 2 minutes in the server with my $24 Saliteck or whatever and trying to punch keyboard buttons
