Aircraft dissapearing after they're on the ground? - AIRdomination - 04.07.2008
OK, now that I have found out how to place the aircraft on the ground....now I want to be able to KEEP them there without having them disappear.
Is this easy to do? Can modders be able to do this? Because I was SO close to achieving the perfect mission that i wanted to make....and then it just disappears in front of my eyes.
I do understand that this will pose a problem to planes landing on carriers....but is there anyway to have the AI be able to tell the difference between a ship and the ground?
If this isn't possible then its fine...I would've just loved to finish my map. :?
Here's an idea though....A seaplane left stationary on the water never disappears...why is this? Can modders encode that information to ground landing aircraft?

You don't understand, they don't stay for 30 minutes! They all disappear after ONE minute no matter WHERE they are. And as for parking spots, I can create my own using Test Runway 4
What I wanted to do was keep aircraft on the ground empty of fuel and weaopns to simulate REAL stationary objects with more life-like damage model. And I have managed to put aircraft into hangars, other places, etc on the ground in airfields. They just keep disappearing on the ground after ONE minute, NOT 30 minutes!! And I honestly hate that.
I KNOW everything that you just meantioned to me. And I want to be bale the aircraft not disappear from me like that.
I never have so many planes that there is no parking space left when I make missions, and I'm sure having more aircraft than your own runway can hold isn't going to happen.
I just want to be able to stop them from disappearing from the ground!
Or at least delay it to a MUCH longer time....like say your 30 minutes that you meantioned?

AI would just sit there and act as targets pretty much, its to simulate stationary objects. I hope this can be done. :? It would reveal a WHOLE new level of play for me.
And I want to finish my map.

Maybe I'm not understanding what you're asking, but there are already stationary aircraft available in the FMB. I don't see why you would need to simulate them, when they already exist.
It is true that you can't (yet) park stationary aircraft, or any stationary objects, on an aircraft carrier.
- AIRdomination - 04.07.2008
FIreball....the stationary aircraft we have already....their damage model sucks. I want to have real-time simulated effects if I want to strafe a stationary aircraft. It adds a WHOLE new meaning to the statonary targets and how much fun it will be.
And I was planning on making a map of this sort....but....

I understand you.......you can have a plane set to take-off ...with another plane facing it or object blocking it and it will just sit there with its engine running..
my mod to give the static a/c a secondary explosion and smoke is better than the default too...
- AIRdomination - 04.07.2008
Fabian...my thing is I can't have its engine running....I start it empty of fuel and weapons. Engine running is....no good
It just needs to sit there....quietly, without disappearing. Thats all I ask. And if it is possible to have the AI differentiate it from carriers.
And I'd still prefer aircraft damage model than just a secondary explosion....
Also...Why don't the Seaplanes ever disappear? Can you maybe run a code from them onto AI ground aircraft?
- BF-109 F4 - 05.07.2008
Thats odd , for me since the pilot is inside the plane it never disappears, only when we damage the plane and the pilot bail out the plane disappears :?
- AIRdomination - 05.07.2008
I have set the plane so the pilot doesn't bail (parachute unchecked) and so that he is sitting there, empty of guns, and fuel (engine not running) and it still disappears .
- rockyalexander - 05.07.2008
Yup...planes disappearing sometimes before they even clear the runway. At one point all the parked planes began bouncing up and down (earthquake?) until the pilots all bailed out and the planes disappeared.

3 easy steps to get stationary aircraft on the airfields
1. Set them a waypoint as normfly at a speed such as 333 or 222 and alt such as 333 or 6666 at the point you want them to be in, placing the next waypoint in the direction you want them to face.
2. Goto the IL-2 directory containing your mission.mis file and edit the ini file, you'll find it has the alt and speed you specified written like this:
example: Speed is 333 and altitude is 6666 (speed marked in yellow, altitude in green)
[131Squadron03_Way]
TAKEOFF 13550.84 48726.11 0 0 &0
NORMFLY 20640.05 50037.62 6666.00 333.00 &0
LANDING 45875.69 46258.10 0 0 &0
now, all you need to do is make it look like this:
NORMFLY 13550.84 48726.11 0 0 &0
NORMFLY 20640.05 50037.62
0 0 &0
LANDING 45875.69 46258.10 0 0 &0
And the plane will spawn as stationary bellylanded aircraft on the ground, lower it's gear for some strange reason and sit there with all crew on board and all props bashed.
Step 3: if you need to add more to the mission you'll have to redo these steps for each flight/aircraft you've got on the ground, as FMB will correct them to being 500 m in the air at 0 kmh, or at the very least you risk it does it...
These planes should stay on the ground for as long as it will take them to reach their landing waypoint which with 4 destroyed engines would be quite hard...
I don't know if this works for the high wing B-24, but it works for the B-17 and similar aircraft.
Hope you found this useful!
- AIRdomination - 05.07.2008
Thanks Arctic Viper...Only problem is Jets and the Lerche... And also the Pe-8 and B-24. And having the props bashed isn't exactly what I had in mind. :?
But thanks for sharing, mate. Really appreciate it.
- ArcticViper - 05.07.2008
I know... it's not a perfect method, but then again, you can edit the fuel here: (mission.ini)
[g0101]
Planes 4
Parachute 0
Skill 3
Class air.C_47
Fuel 100
weapons none
to
[g0101]
Planes 4
Parachute 0
Skill 3
Class air.C_47
Fuel 0
weapons none
and that should happily solve your problem, again, do as the last thing because FMB might change this stuff back...
Now while bashed props is a bit on the shabby side, it may be the only way to do this "semi-properly" I do agree that the DM for static ac is wank, but then again, that makes them less CPU intensive... maybe someone will give us some new slot static ac with proper damage models, or a mod that allows stationary AI aircraft that are unmanned? oooh... possibilities are aplenty
- ArcticViper - 05.07.2008
hmm... thinking about this... the lerche might actually spawn as lying on it's side, normal flight position, but the Pe-8 and the B-24 shouldn't move if you've edited the fuel to 0, and they most likely won't have the bashed props either...
