A complete tutorial for FMB? - Acajoun - 12.07.2008

Hello,
here I am one more time whit a request of help. I'm trying to edit the beautiful FabianFred's map of Japan whit FMB. I've downloaded FMB, I've put his folder in the MODS folder and I've unlocked it by editing conf.ini and bldconf by Notepad. I can introduce new elements in the map, but every time I save them (clicking on "Save", not on "Save as"!) I can see, if I open the map again, that every change has been lost. Surely I'm making some mistake, but I can't understand what. Please, could you indicate me wher can I found a complete tutorial?
Thank you very much for your help

You need to set up a special folder to receive the saved files.

If your maps are in:

IL2 Sturmovik 1946/MODS/MAPMODS/maps/FabianFreds_Map

then you set up a folder:

IL2 Sturmovik 1946/Maps/FabianFreds_Map

The sub folder names must match.

When you cick on "Save" in FMB Map Editor the files are saved in the root/Maps/.... folder

Exit IL-2. -- Copy the saved files to your main map folder -- Re-start IL-2

The map changes will now be there.

I use a program called "Freecommander"

It is like Windows Explorer, but it has two panels ....so you can open the il2/maps/OJ folder in the left hand pane ...and il2/MODS/MAPMODS/maps/OJ in the right hand pane

and when you have 'saved' your work on the map ...you can easily exit il2 then open Freecommander and it is on the last folders used....so just select the altered actors.static/map_h/map_t/texts....and copy them to the right hand folder in the mapmods

Acajoun ...the game loads a map from the maps in the MODS folder...but will save to the root il2/maps folder

hey asheshouse I am having the exact same scenario as acajoun.

Perhaps you could enlighten me here also...

I installed QMBPlus to where it looked like this: il2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\QMBPlus\Missions\Quicks

To be able to edit those QMB maps in FMB I cut & pasted the quicks file into the game root Missions folder....i.e. ...1946\Missions\Campaigns, Net or Single reside...

Now it looks like this: IL2......1946\Missions\Quicks

I am trying to just add a column of german type ll moving vehicles along the road.

They just will not save or save as...either way.

Do I need another folder to accomplish this editing of the QMB scenarios? Exactly where do I put that folder in the flow of things? There was nothing about this in their readme that I picked up on...

Thanks

Don't get confused....QMB missions are made in the normal FMB or FMB+

Acajoun is using the MapTools FMB to alter the map...not create missions

Different ballgame

Oh, Doesn't take much to conuse me.... same problem...different scenario

do try to PM FC to get first hand info ( if not already ) .... but please have patience cos he is pretty busy

cheers

thank you fly..I was just thinking about that very thing, but I really hate to bother you guys directly because I know how busy you all must be.

I try to figure it out via the readme's & then help via the forum, but I think this is one of those things that I'll never figure out..
I can make trucks move in the FMB alone, but not via this QMBPlus Mod. I has to be something within the mod I'm thinken...

thanks..

A big Thanks to everybody! - Acajoun - 13.07.2008

Hello, guys!
Thank you a lot for your precious tips. All is going well now whit the map mod! Big Grin I'am creting a fictive japanese airfield to contrast a B29 mission on Nagasaki. Laterly I hope to find a map whit the exact locations of real WW2 japanese airfield and some urban maps of the period to customize historically Fabianfred map. Thank you again for all!!!

THANKS AAA!

Nice, I had just logged on to tell folks that I was editing FF's Japan Map for a Korean War Outbreak Map, and I was also unable to save.

I see now what I had done wrong!

Thanks!

How to create a basins and docks ? - Acajoun - 14.07.2008

Hello,
I've found a satellite photo of modern Nagasaki and I'm trying to built this town on FF's map by it . I should to build some docks and some bassins. How can we do in order to add some squares of water in the map? Second question: in the "objects" menu there is a sub-menu "SEA" where, if I'm not wrong, allows to build docks. But every time i try to bond some sections ot them they don't result at the same level, as if the seawater wouldn't have the same level everywhere: what does it mean? Third and last question: is it possible to mantain a vision of the map when we zoom on it in order to add some elements? (I've seen that when I zoom only coordinates remain, on an all-black background with a white square in the centre. This is very uncomfortable because it obliges me to make labourious calculations on a virgin version of the map out of map_FMB_mod...
Thank You for help: I hope that an answer from expert mapbuilders will be helpful not only for me but, as in the previous occasions, to others green modders.
Best regards
Silvio

you cannot add water in the FMB

that is a map_c task
