Blenheim MK I & IV cockpits - Charlie Chap - 15.07.2008
Pe2series 1 and pe3bis cockpits re-textured and new 3do/cockpit folders created for the Blenheim's (so that the pe's remain as original)
Blenheim MK I
Blenheim MK IV
Duxford Blenheim
Download:-
Blenheim_I_IV_cockpits.rar
Backup your original Blenheim cockpits and then overwrite as there are two edited Java files that needs to replace the original in order to reference the new cockpit folders.
(EDIT )
On the 2nd of August Rudi released the following excellent update for the Blenheims:-
This converts the bomb site to a Norden and adds the A20 class nose position to the Mk IV.
(The link is inoperative)
To combine all of these components:-
i) Install the Blenheim ai made flyable (if you havn't already).
ii) Add Rudi's new Bomb aimers position and bomb sights
iii) Install my Blenheim_I_IV_cockpits.rar according to instruction. (no need to if you installed it already, the textures and new cockpit folders will already be there.).
Download the two following tiny files and overwrite the ones in your BlenheimI & IV folders in your mod directory.
Blenheim_with_Rudis_Norden.zip
New Yoke and Ring site, English Gauges and new cockpit textures to create a 'Faux' Blenheim .
Note:-
Altitude and Climb/descent are still in meters (obviously a cancelled export !)
Fuel Gauge works but starts reading below 30% fuel
known Issue:-
I tried a lot of things but the Ring site textures flicker when gun is fired in gun sight view in some views. (really appreciate if anyone can work out how to prevent this, I spent hours with Alpha's etc etc etc to no avail ?.)
The single .303 is in the left wing and fires diagonally across the nose...the gun sight ring can only be accurate for a single convergence distance, currently I think this is about 300m's. ( if you have to use the forward guns you are in big trouble in this aircraft !)
Note:- Textures are from stock il2 pits and a few were ported from Avala's Hurricane (hope this is ok ? I can revise if you don't like.)
Thanks to Lt Wolf and PeacelovinHippy for originally putting cockpits into these planes.
Avala and Poncho for their kind advice.
Please tweak...change...distribute, do whatever you want but if you can (have) improve on this, please post so that it can be available for anyone that would like it !

Glad you like it Howlin. Thanks for your feedback.
Its not really a Blenheim after much more than a superficial glance but it is more immersive than the stock pe pits isn't it.
The ringsite came from the A20c after a fair amount of mesh hacking...I could only really seem to get the aiming point roughly correct in one view or the other so I went for the one that would be lean to gunsight (in an axis plane, shft F1 default) as the cockpit shape then seems better.
The alignment may be incorrect even then , its something I can look at more closely (beta thread).
The angle of the wing mounted gun makes this quite difficult for this plane.
I hope someone may be able to help with the flashing textures in this view also ?

Very, very Nice ol chap. Great addition, Thanks.

The gunsight doesn't even work for 300m convergence. Just to let you know mate.

S!
thx chap

This started out as an experiment. I picked the Blenheim as it had a long way to go.
Then this involved a very simple java edit...mesh hacking, him editing, re-texturing and playing around with alpha's. All quite primitive compared to what the experts have been doing however that I can do it means that ANYONE could if they put their mind to it.
Not really all that complicated and you can find how to do all (except the simple java edit, pm a relevant person perhaps ?) with a forum search.
What is exciting I think is that there are so many other cockpits that can be really improved in a similar way just with some basic re-texturing (and my re-texturing is basic !) and little tweaks:-
eg:-
Gladiators:- with English gauges and sight(pretty straightforward)
MS 400's :- French lettering and signs
me 110's, 210's, 410's
Italian version of pe2 pit for Ranwars beutiful Cant ?
B25 models
Even the mighty B17's & B24 (although you probably would not want to take those on alone.)
All the ai made flyable pits can be seperated and made unique :-)
There is a lot you can do to make things a lot better without needing to make new 3d objects,
concluding that its too complicated...and not doing it.

I vote for the Gladiator. Please...

I must say, this is astonishing work, quality and with very low weights. I especially love to stare through Blenheim MkI’s glazed floor.
Thanks for this Charlie

Nice work mate, thx
