Help! Shut down at 60% load!!! - Dietz - 19.07.2008

1946 with mods downloads had been working just fine ( with new PC & graphics card etc)when it started shutting down to desktop when 60% loaded.Direct X is up to date too.Tried uninstall & reinstall in different drive-still no joy,but interestingly all mods came along in reinstall ( go figure..) As you can imagine I'm desparate!

Sounds like a file is in the wrong place (sequence). My understanding is that the game checks for the files in a particular sequence, and if a MOD places (or adds) a file out of order - you will crash to desktop.

I had a similar experience after downloading a particular destruction mod. I read all of the threads on this particular mod and found that all people had to do was find the file folder that the mod added and:

(1) Make sure it is in the correct location or...

(2) Add the letter "Z" to the beginning of the file name that the mod added. This puts the added file at the end of the list as the game loads and allows the original files to be checked in the proper sequence.

That worked for me, and I was happy to see the game load and not crash at 60%.

Can you locate the last file you downloaded that caused the problem?

seams to me that you've installed some mod or modpack which putted some files originally placed in "FILES" folder to some "BASIC MOD" ( or similar) inside MODS folder .... so wrapper loads files from that folder instead from FILES folder . Try to find it and place "-" as prefix to its name.

BTW, do make backup next time you got it working

What's the quickest way to fix this? Do an uninstall & reinstall of sim? I'm having trouble following your advice of trying to find the misplaced files ,what they will look like & then where to send them. Not sure how to solve the problem.

First , rename your MODS folder to "-MODS" .... try to load game ... if it isn't in russian anymore than your FILES folder is ok .

Next step.... rename it back to MODS .... disable all folders inside MODS ( place "-" as prefix in folder name)

Now , enable one by one ( remove "-" from folder name) until game becomes in russian again .... so you'll know which folder is "guilty"
-----------------

If renaming MODS folder doesn't work then problem lies in your FILES folder .... best way is to reinstall all from beginning i'm afraid

Many thanks for your help! All day I've been trying to get rid of the Russain speak back to perfect game...Finally I reinstalled completely clean version & carefully did everything in order & when I got it to perfect I saved it all! Whew....I think I got into trouble either loading maps or when I specified the wrong thing in downloading aircraft...or just careless...but its all back now & very streamlined conpared to 5 years of add-ons & misplaced files...so ther is a silver lining! glad you've sorted it out Big Grin

.... make backups regularly ( especially before installing any complex beta mod ...)

I was smart enough to copy all my skins , missions ,users etc. BEFORE switch to new Rig,so I got off lucky.I didn't have the brains to do that yesterday in the brief moment when it was operating perfectly...which reminds me :instead of saving basically the whole game on a separate drive ,is there a way of simply burning a dvd with all the info on it? Are there things I can copy to dvd & others right protected?? :?:

JD, now that you are fixed, get into the habit of making regular backup copies of your MODS folder. It'll save you a lot of time.

you can burn it as normal ISO DVD (data)... and just copy / past in game folder when needed .

... i have burned separated back up DVD's :

1 MODS and FILES folders

2 Paintshemes / Missions

3 All the rest files and folders

...so i have to back up just first one regularly
