"Gunstat" mod request/proposal - TinyTim - 19.07.2008

I'm just testing some weapon efficiency offline and this just passed my mind. How about a gunstat mod, which would allow a player to somehow see how many (and possibly from which kind of weapons) of his bullets hit and how many were fired overall? Maybe it could be in a form of "speedbar" but in some other corner, just a simple counter for each type of the barrel weapon carried. It could also be in a X/Y (Z) form, where X=aerial target hits, Y=ground target hits, Z=number of all bullets fired. Could it be included as a new "switch" in a difficulty settings, and turned on/off? Just thinking out loud here... In addition it could also show you how many and which kinds of bullets you were hit with. What do you gentlemen think?

Something like this (yellow colour showing bullets fired, red ones received):

I'd gladly do it myself (if it's doable within reasonable time/effort frame), but my modding knowledge is second to nil...

Any takers?

(p.s.: I apologise if I posted in wrong place, and if I overlooked an existing thread about similar topic topic)

GREAT MOD IDEA! ++++

That would be incredibly cool!
I'd like to see the same for other armaments too (e.g. rockets and bombs). While we're at it, how about hits recieved from ground based weaponry too? (e.g. 88's, Flakvierling, .50 cal etc)

Another idea: Maybe it would be better to indicate also number of remaining bullets instead/besides the number of expended ones.

About rockets/bombs/flak - I don't know how this can be done. You don't need to hit directly with them to destroy/damage a target, or multiple targets... But would certainly be wellcome to know how many you have left!

Also for proximity triggered flak: you can be hit with a single tiny harmless splinter of an 88 that exploded 200 meters away, or you can be hit diretly, blowing you instantly to kingdom come. Would the number for received 88s in both cases be 1?

that would be good but

in ww2 they didnt have HUD's woth that info and if you look and certin planes (F6F-5, Bufflo) they have ammo counters in them

but i fo like that first part of it

Agreed, but they also didn't have the blue right aligned "cannon jammed", "rudder controls disabled" and similar messagaes which can't even be turned off, they lacked our "on HUD" speed bar, they didn't have F6, Ctrl-F1, F7 or any other external view, they didn't have a refly button... This would be optional (which it is already by being a mod, but even better when it could be toggled from inside the game). Completely unhistorical I agree, but a very wellcome tool IMO in some specific scenarios, like training or testing.

There are much better things for serious testing of DM and weapon effectiveness.
