AerMacchi MC.200 Serie 1 corrected - char_aznable - 25.07.2008
This topic follows the previous one: viewtopic.php?t=5883&start=0
As reported there, this plane in game has a completely wrong cockpit, as you can see in these Summer 1940 images:
I've corrected it and also antenna wires, adding a frameless internal cockpit for this Serie aircraft only:
Other features included fully corrected cockpit internal writings for all kinds of MC.200, because many of them were in bad Italian language, new default skin pack for (It) version with corrected alpha channel and white backgrounds for wing markings as it was during 1940, corrected default skin for (Multi1) version and repositioned landing gear lights in cockpit. A couple of instrument, slightly different in Serie 1 from other series, have been reskinned. Also Fascist insignia on fuselage has been corrected.
You can download this mod here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?myxkpd0z1d0
To install, simply unzip the folder 'files' and put it in your 'MODS' folder, if you already have a 'files' folder it could be that some files have to be overwritten.
Know issue: game become a bit slower in loading, probably the wrapper has to work more.

Am i the only one who can't seem to get this to work ? Unzipped the Files folder in the MODS and nothing happened. Still the same cockpit.

choose Italy and work fine....
- Trooper117 - 28.07.2008
Yep.. Works when 'Italy' is selected, the original framework has now been removed, but is anyone else still getting the reflection from the glass that is not supposed to be there?

Same here...

Unfortunately, side cockpit frames can't be deleted, I could only make them transparent.
Anyway, this 'Serie 1' cockpit should work for (Multi1) slot also, it works properly for me...
Now I'm working on reticle, surely too large in game, it's still WIP, once finished it will be included in download for both MC.200 cockpits:
Thanks to you all :!:
- Trooper117 - 28.07.2008
There's already a fix for the reticle somewhere mate... I'll try and find out where it is.
- *{64s}Tomio_I - 28.07.2008
unfortunately this cockpit is not exactly true too
the game one is more correct
the MC200 was designed to had the canopy you made but pilots did'nt like at all, they want the open one, they asked for that and the production was modified
that's why oleg did the one we know
- Metatron - 29.07.2008
They did at some point start with that canopy, so how is this mod incorrect?
- Trooper117 - 29.07.2008
They are both correct in my opinion.. The first 240 production aircraft had the fully enclosed cockpit with hood, (the mod version). The traditional 'hump' behind the pilot was initialy all perspex I believe.. Maybe someone with more knowledge could confirm that.
After requests from pilots, this was then changed to a full open cockpit with no hood, or a semi enclosed one, (Olegs version) for subsequent aircraft..

:? Please, read that before writing anything... viewtopic.php?t=5883
Serie 1 MC.200s (205 built, 99 by Macchi, 82 by Breda and 24 by SAI Ambrosini) and first planes of Serie 2, for a total amount of 240 ones until December 1940, had the enclosed sliding canopy you can see above. Many Serie 1 planes had also a retractable rear wheel, but it revealed itself as complicated and weak and it was replaced on field with the one used by further aircrafts, sometimes with a fairing, anyway later removed (if you look at landing gear lights in right panel, you'll see 3 of them). There were also other differences, but not so important.
I've already written about it, so I don't want to explain again why Italian pilots disliked this kind of cockpit.
Beginning in January 1941, cockpit was replaced on all remaining Serie 1 aircrafts with the whole 'Serie 3' one, as it was available for new planes, including that solid rear, it was anyway difficult to see behind because of synthetic glass poor quality and this newer type offered a better visibility, Serie 1 planes could be recognized between normal Serie 3 ones because they mantained rear wheel ports and part of canopy slides.
Eventually, MC.200s NEVER, I repeat NEVER, had the cockpit you can see in Oleg & Co.'s Serie 1.
Trooper117 Wrote:They are both correct in my opinion..
Serie 3 like semi-enclosed canopy couldn't fit Serie 1 cockpit, because it had hinges, not slides.
Furthermore, radio equipment in Serie 1 was located under MGs, so it couldn't have an antenna like later series.
I hope to have been exhaustive and convincing, because I'm not willing to discuss 'why' I've made this mod, but 'how' I've done it.
