New computer questions - PapaG39 - 26.07.2008

The first of July I redid my computer.

I had a very large box with mega fans already plus an OCZ 580 watt power supply.

I had the computer store install a:

Gigabyte X48-DS4 motherboard with a Intel X48/ICH9R/Socket775 rev.1.3
Intel core2Duo 6MB Cache 1333FSB 3.0Ghz
1. PCI-E 2.0x16/3 PCI Ex1/1394/ATX
4 DDr2 Dual-CH/DTS Audio
2 GbE LAN/8SATA 3Gb/s/12 USB2.0

ASUS EN8800GTS/HTDP 512M/A

2 ea. DDR2 1GB PC6400 800Mhz Cas 2.x

I have no idea what all of those numbers really mean, but they said it was very good.

It seems to be slightly faster then my old machine, but I am not impressed with the Nvidia over my old Ati X1900XT graphis card because I can'[t see anything any better with it & I still lhave things dancing in the distance & around forests & rivers

My questions is a jumbled up mess & I apologize for that.

I have been trying to run the SlovakiaStrikeBlue mission in QMB & with my 12 aircraft shooting up the town plus 12 enemy when I get near the town my fraps counter drops to 4-6 & I get a rapid flutter until we all get through the town. If I stay high it isn't as bad, but still a rapid flutter when everyone is near town.

My machine is as tuned up as I know how.

Brand new install of XP Pro & all drivers are the correct ones.
My 1946 dvd up & running 4.09b1m Plus the new aircraft & a few new maps.

I use Disckeeper which does a defrag of the starup systems Plus defrags files and C drive.
I use Tuneup Utilities to defrag the registry & keep things tuned up.

This high speed flutter seems to point to a memory not transferring graphics fast enough.
I have 512 mb memory on the graphs card plus 2Gb main memory.

I can't think that going to 4 Gb memory would make any difference.

The OCS power supply is almost new & while I wish I had of gotten 680watts, I didn't have the $$$ at the time..hind site is 20-20 there.

Using QMB Plus I cut 1/4 of the ground objects out & cut the aircraft back to 8 & I still get a flutter around the town.

Do any of you think that this may well just be the problem with the map or should my computer handle it.

Can anyonte try playing the slovakiaBlueStrike map in QMB with 12 Hawk 75's & 8/ l-16 & 4 /153 russians... & see how it plays for you?

I have spent about 30 hours trying to adjust that 8800gts & have read everything online elseware about it & honestly, I can't see any better with it then I could with my old ati...bummer on money ill spent there.

I'm not too up to date with the latest hardware, but with those specs you should be running nicely. The best quick fix I have found is vertical sync - in the gforce control panel check and make sure vsync is forced off, not application control - as il2 has it enabled with no option in game to disable.

cpu/ram does affect fps, these you will have to set in the BIOS, default settings will probably be set to minimum - these settings I cannot advise you on as I said, I'm not sure about the latest stuff - you should be able to work out with some research.

Do you play any other games? do these run ok? If not it might be difficult to see wether it is Il2 or hardware related, you could try 3d mark or PCmark benchmarking programs to compare your results with similar setups.

Drivers maybe causing problems, it might be worth reinstalling the gforce drivers, and the PCI-e drivers as well... asus also release different drivers to the Nvidia ones - it might be worth trying both (i have an asus n6800 and found the Nvidia ones best)

I really don't know if any of this will help, or if you have fixed the problems already. I just saw that no one had posted any help, and I know new computers can be an arse...

Good luck Smile

Oh.. the another thing - Pirate - 17.09.2008

Dual core - there is a tweek guide somewhere around these parts to set up dual core for Il2, Which is not originally designed for multiple CPUs....

You cannot run IL-2 in two cores because the game only will run in one. But there is the possibility of select one core for IL-2 and the other or other ones, for running HL, TS, TrackIR, etc. You can find information in the net.
