Making Mods That Aren't Planes...some questions - Mordante69 - 24.08.2008

Hi. Been tooling around this site for a while now and finally decided to register. Seems you guys are really keeping this game alive.

So after reading through a bunch of the modding areas I have some questions.

1. Can that Dr Jones 3D converter place new objects in the game besides planes? I noticed people have been cloning and retexturing ships and stuff to get the effect they are after but could someone actually make a new ship with a 3d program and put it in the game?

2. If you could actually make new objects for the game, then would someone be able to make say, new ground soldier models? Or new pilot models? Or are we limited by what is already there?

If there are no limits on putting models in the game than potentially the graphics could represent just about anything people needed as objects, accurate ships for each nationality, new buildings, bridges, vehicles...stuff of that nature.

I've seen where someone was making new radar masts for CanonUK's excellent (although still beta) Channel map.

My understanding is that yes, anything is possible. Modelling and coding it are another story- for as you can see the number of folks doing things here, there's a lot of stuff under development- and many requests. It may motivate some to take the leap and get into action with some of this stuff, but since everyone (I imagine) has real jobs, families, etc. time is the commodity most lacking- but what certainly is not lacking is imagination.

Hope that gives you an idea of what's happening. Anyone else have a perspective on this that is more involved in the process?
