Ship request: Japanese cruisers...and the Fuso! - shieldsy - 03.09.2008

Japanese cruisers were very powerful ships with multiple long lance torpedoes and guns everywhere. Whether you like the tall pagoda bridge like on the Maya or the long, low slung looks of the Suzuya, they would all make great additions to the sim. JAP TASK FORCE SIGHTED.......!
The battleship Fuso is a personal favorite. She looked so bizarre with her towering superstructure. One of the best WW2 photos is if her vainly fighting off a task force of US planes.
The IJN had so many cool ships.
Of course we can always dream of an IL-2 Yamato...................

The lack of a good selection of ship models, especially for the Japanese fleet, was another of the great omissions in Pacific Fighters. Here's hoping that a warship modelling enthusiast will pick up the challenge.

---- and what about Mediteranean Flight ops. A few Italian and British warships would be very useful to fill out the scene. A generic Italian destroyer and cruiser, and a British QE or R class battleship, plus cruiser and destroyer.

Cant wait for the ship building tutorial to be produced.

These would be nice to add but have way too many polygones

With some fine tunning it might look like a ship, but i suggest to build an entirely new model, specially for IL-2. Smile

I absolutely approve (Even if I don't have a say in anything ;P) of the need of new capital ships, and second this.

New ships = Win

Has anyone worked out how many polys are in the existing ship models.

The quality of most of them seems good enough to me, -- for a flight sim.

11k polys for the Iowa seems a bit high --- but its your choice.

This is what i found

http://www.saturnsoft.hu/portfolio/LowPoly/PAM_Eng.htm
Poly limit is 1000 for smaller cargo ships, this is 570.

Ground vehicle limit is 500 polygon, this is 482.

Well if you want to use particulary this model, below 11k it's not looking like ship,it's nothing.
It needs an entirely new model for IL-2.

I have a model of the Iowa I made for Sub Command but that had a poly limit of 4000.
