Beginning B-17 cockpit - {HVY}A10inbound - 10.09.2008
After some thought I've decided I'm going to start on the B-17 cockpit without any experience what so ever because I believe someone has to start it. It will be a long time until I finally even figure out how to use these 3d modelers. But if any one would like to help me with developing and research that would be outstanding just PM and we can get something going.

Making a new cockpit from scratch? This would be epic!
Good old chap, have a go

Sorry if it is a noob question, but would it be possible to convert a B-17 cockpit from another sim? With needed adjustments of course.

after hard re-work propably yes,for example from CFS is possible use cockpits, but hiearchy and quality is differ. But you need import files from otther games in 3dmax.I know some software for import this in 3dmax.

I have 3d max so if we could get together and you could put me on the right track of importing that would be badass. I am starting completely from scratch and I have no experience and very little knowledge about these programs and the whole moding deal but it show you how bad I want that cockpit so I will try my best.

making correct cockpit is not for childern,is need about 300 hours clear time for professional in 3dsmax,you must know full structure of names and objects, animation, using dummy objects as hooks etc ... more work ...

ohhh man : (

maybe i am wrong.... but im not sure how do you plan make those engine dials work, as far as i know, there are only two dials and pilot switched them to show port or starboard engines... i doubt you can make something like that in il-2 ...
ps: i am talking about dials which are marked by that red, yellow and white rectangles...

dont worry, try check tutorial 3dsmax and

Indeed mate !!
This Project is cool, but binds you on computer for ages.
First, find out whats going on in B-25 Cockpit... if you figured out, you can safe time, 'cause avoiding mistakes.
You could take the Steering wheels from A-20 ... 'lil bit repaint.
Good luck.

Hi folks,
As a dedicated bomber pilot i miss proper cockpits as well. Since i used to play with 3d max some years ago and i would consider myself as semi skilled modeler (examle attached one of my projects BMW X5), i'm considering to try to build a cockpit/gunner stations for B-24 Liberator possibly B17. However my free time is not unlimited i would like to ask what is some real time estimate to build cockpit.
Also question for local modders if I build 3d model of the cockpit with all appropriate attributes like proper hierchy mapping and textures will someone make it working because programing is something which i'm not willing to spend time on.
Thanks.

I've had a quick look at this and it seems to me the first thing to determine is the cockpit instrumentation.
The java code that feeds the instrument graphics will need to be considered and there is two options.
1. Use the existing java coding of the only flyable 4 engine aircraft in game. The TB3. But the working instrumentation is sparse if that would be acceptable to heavy pilots. Non working would be texture only.
2. Use the java coding of an equivalent 2 engine aircraft and duplicate the code for the additional 2 engines if it is possible.
Building a model pit from scratch will be much quicker than modding an existing pit with all its problems.
I would guestimate about 4 - 9 months at 3 - 4 hours a day, 6 days a week including java coding, modelling with uv baking and texturing.
cheers,

Hmm quite lot and frankly I do not have such time even if modeling took only 50% of it.
What about gunners positions ? Now the frontal are close tu useless and tail could be better then the B25 one.
And it could be a bit easyer
Maybe if it is possible to export present B25 tail gunner and top gunner positions to some 3d MAX readable format i can make much better idea what is it all about. If is somewhere some "how to" i would at least try.
