B-29 killers! Fly the Ki-46 KAi over Japan - Poltava - 21.09.2008
The Ki-46 was a very sleek and fast JAAF recce aircraft, known to the allies under the codename "Dinah". When Japan came under increasing pressure from B-29 attacks, a heavy fighter variant of this aircraft was developed.
It had two 20 mm cannons in the nose and one 37 mm cannon in an "upwards-and-forwards" position, for fighting against the USAAF B-29 over the metropolitan Japanese islands.
When used in actual combat it was moderately sucessful. The fighter variant of the Ki-46 lacked stability for sustained shooting of the 37 mm weapon, was weak in its armour, and slow to climb.
When you fly it, the upward poiting 37mm is actually your best bet: fly under the B-29 formations, and use the special sight that you can see when looking up. The accuracy is quite good, when you get the hang of it, and you can stay out of range of the B-29's vast array of HMG's.
Included is also a special skin, by IFE.

In the future I might develop a whole campaign for this aircraft.

Hi, Poltava!
Campaign especially for a fighter of air defence or in the beginning there will be starts on reconnaissance?
Excuse for my English.

I had a go. I must say that the aircraft is a gem. It is very interesting and challenging. As a memeber of the "I need something new" club. I was quite entretained by this A/C. One thing that worried me was the 37mm cannon. I hit a B29 at least four times in the fuse and the A/C kept on flying as if I had hit them with my Red Ryder (thats a BB gun for you born in the eighties). Now I am no expert by any streach of the immagination, but it seems a bit underpowered for a 37mm with explosive shells. Other than the cannon, the aircraft is lovely and makes night missions a new sidebar for me. Really have enjoyed it.
Great Job and a big THANKS
