Spit Mk1 and SkinMod - Hawkman - 21.09.2008
Can anyone tell me how to use vpmedia's excellent Skinmod with the Spit Mk1 and other new slot planes? I see that the spit a/c mod folder has it's own set of skin TGAs amd 3do/Planes folder structure as the skinmod. I want to be able to use a default skin using skinmod.
Thanks in advance

method first discovered by Bee :
go to QMB .... choose skin for desired aircraft .... start mission ..... switch to desktop (windows key..) ... go to \PaintSchemes\Cache\ .... find that plane folder ( inside should be 4 files ) .... copy 4 files to summer or winter or desert folder of skin mod ( desired plane )
Create needed folders if not present .....

Sorry fly_zo, that doesn't work. The Spit Mk1 mod folder (as do all the other new slot planes) has it's own 3do/Plane/summer folders with it's own skin TGAs. These are the default skins that the game recognises. Simply copying the selected skin from the cache folder to the skin mod folder doesn't work. The game always reads the tgas contained in the Spit Mk1 folder. I'm wondering if simply moving the 3do/Plane/summer folders over from the Spit Mk1 mod folder to the skin mod Spit Mk1 folder will be ok, or will that adversely affect the Spit mod?

I found it was the opposite - I had to modify the ones in tbe 'Summer' folder for it to work; modifying the ones in the root folder didn't. Maybe replace both sets?

That definitely seems to do it. I didn't try it with the Spit, but with the new Jabo 109 F's, I placed the new .tga's in the summer folder for the mod itself, not the skin mod. Worked like a charm. Thanks.

it's really matter of placement order ... as wrapper loads any file only once , it will load only first one it could find . As new slot mods comes with skin files /folders ( 3do\....) and they are listed before skin mod ( alphabetically ) wrapper will load only skins from them ( and disregard those from skin mod ) .
So either you rename skin mod folder to 00_skinmod ( or similar) so it comes on top of the list, or replace skins directly in new slot plane folders with custom ones .

well, since the mod planes files are accessible from the start, you do not need the bypass of the skinmod

... in that case you need to replace skins with every update of new slot plane mods
