Spit IX - Pointed rudder question - Kosmos - 23.09.2008

Hi all,
The MkIX looks great with the standard round-type rudder mod, but is there any chance that the pointed type could be corrected? The profile of the lower edge has always looked wrong.

Maybe the one from the Mk.VIII could be used??

Cheers

Unfortunately, I don't think it is possible to use the rudder from the Mk VIII as it's a completely different model to the Mk IX. The other options would be to edit the Hier.him file to try and correct the shape or to build a new one in 3ds max and import it into the game. This is something I would like to see fixed myself.

Gustav,
I've got the mod, thats not what I mean.
I'm talking about the original broad-chord, 'pointed' rudder on the MkIX. (Wasn't it released with AEP or patched in afterwards??)

The lower part is the wrong shape.
Smile

Brutus,
I thought it might be a long shot matching up the MkVIII rudder. Oh well... Sad

Kosmos, I'm sure it's possible to correct the broad chord rudder. There are some very talented people on this site. They do tend to be very busy though, so it's a case of hoping one of these guys wants this issue fixed also and has it on their list. Short of that, I'll maybe have a look if the hier.him file can be edited to correct the profile to a better one. Editing the hier.him file has its limitations though, from the brief bit of experimentation I've had. I've a feeling the best solution is to bulid a new rudder altogether. This involves a lot more work though.

No problem, thanks for your help Smile

It is possible to correct the Mk IX's broad chord rudder without using the Mk VIII's rudder. Ranwers has already done it for the Mk IX E bubble top mod. (The link is inoperative)

His version is much more accurate than the original, which really defaces the beauty of the Spit - like a moustache drawn on the Mona Lisa.

In principle this could be extended to cover other IXs, but it would need Ranwers to take an interest.

I had forgotten Ranwers MkXVI!
As a new rudder already exists, I hope he might be able to add it to the IX eventually.
