A Mission Builder's Crash and Burn - Dixiecapt - 30.09.2008
Hey everyone, No i'm not talking about Monday's Stockmarcket Crash...
I went camping this weekend and when I returned my computer was off. I tried to start it up, and nada, all I get is a pin hole of light on the monitor. My TV in the living room is also messed up and wont hold a picture.
Considering that, and that the clocks were all blinking I think that lightning, or some kind of power surge is the issue.
I don't know if my computer is fixable, and even though I will be looking into such, I can hardly afford Gas right now, so it seems that I might be S.O.L. for some time.
Not to mention the Philippines Campaign, and Slot Campaigns I were still working on.
I've no plan to pick back up on those from scratch as will most likely be the case.
I do however have missions files from my WIP Slot and Philippeans Campaigns on Thumb Drives, and would be more than Happy to Share those with whomever would like them.
Remember you can erase the action from the mission files and can use the templates for static and DCG campaigns.
I hope to have everything fixed and be back in the skies by X-mas at worst, but my Campaign building days look to be officialy over.
Cheers
You can Mail me if you want what mission files I have on Thumb Drives.

That sucks, man. You have pit a lot of work and hours into the missions. Hope you can get them back.

Dixiecapt,
I've had a hardrive go tits up on me before and my local computer shop was able to salvage most of the information.
Also if you know any computer geniuses I believe the software to do this is out there on the hacker sites so maybe it wont cost you to retrieve your files.
Perhaps just perhaps all is not lost just misplaced for a while.

If the computer will not start up...it could be for any number of reasons ...not necessarily a HDD failure so the data may be OK
a Power Supply Unit is often blown by a power surge like a lightening strike ...was the computer left running?
I know mine is on 24/7 what with P2P and torrents running etc.
or the GPU may have gone tits up
does the com and fans run but no picture?

I have a good bit of campaign data on Thumb Drives, and will be using my Work PC to bundle some of it up on Filefront as soon as i get a chance.
The fan will run but no picture on either of my monitors. My older PC won't really run the FMB, especially with the new maps.
I'm going to look into getting the info if there is any, I have one of those PC geeks for a buddy.
Still I'm going to offer what I have for Breifings, Skins, and templates for the VMF-213 Campaign I was working on. My hopes for the community is that someone might actually be interested in finishing up that campaign (MAINLY just to fill the void of Slot Campaigns. I'd hate to say, well I will get to that campaign when I can afford a new PC months from now)

Very sorry to hear this. Hope you get your data back. As others have said, hdd's are very sturdy.

Try Replacing the Power Supply first
