modeling, how do i.... - danger - 04.10.2008

ok, so i am trying to give something back to the community but when asking for help i am met with deletion of posts so i am trying one more time.
i have read through the tutorials
i have got 3ds max 5
i have dloaded the tools. but i have a slight but significant problem,

i have extracted the sfs files and have the converter.
example;-

opened a set of extracted sfs files for a cockpit with the converter and can see it in the viewer
saved them as .3ds in another folder
opened 3ds max 5
this is where it goes wrong, i try to open the cockpit in max and it tells me it is the incorrect format.

Try posting in the correct sections, and maybe it wont go missing...

perhaps a specific topic for modeling help would be useful then ?
otherwise like other posts i have made, they get lost and overlooked.

i am only trying to give something back after all

I've got the same problem.

I got around it by exporting from mshconverter in obj format and then importing the obj file into 3ds.

Others seem to be able to export straight to 3ds file format with no problem.

You need to remember that the "experts" here are also learning, so you will not always get a quick answer to problems.

i tried that, but there is no option to import the .obj in max 5. there must be something i am missing. :?

It's possible that because you're using an older version of 3ds Max, you need a plugin to enable import/export of files in msh format.

Try looking at this site:
