Changes to former version:

Rename files option added to the actor_worker.exe for better handling of edited and unedited files.

Sorting raster of the inBuildings.txt sorting program decreased to 800 meter for better coherenc of nearby standing buildings. Sorter800.exe now reads your maps dimensions from map_h.tga, this must be in the same folder.

"Other population tools" added:

Some tools to create easily as much little villages as you want randomly dispersed. To be used together with tools to select flat areas and a select heigh range tool. Some tools to manipulate and merge inBuildings files too. A brief describtion how to use the tools is in the _readme.txt.

Notes to former version:

Here are a few of programs i used and still use with my map. May be they will be usefull also for you if you want to populate your map:

sorter.exe:
You will have joined differend inBuildings.txt to a main inbuildings.txt. This program resorts the inBuildings.txt in a horizontal 1600 m raster, beginning at the upper side of a map. So after splitting the sorted inBuildings you can edit the whole bunch of your buildings.

splitter.exe:
This splits the resorted inBuildings.txt to pieces the mapping fmb can handle. Related actors will have a size of about 370 KB or so.

actor_worker.exe:
This is not a easy one. It

- creates a actors.static from the splitted files
- copies it to your ...\mapmod\maps\my_map folder
- runs Il2fb so you can edit and save the file
- copies the saved actor.static back to your working folder after you closed Il2fb
- runs outact
- renames all related files
- and starts again with the next splitted file if you want.

For that it needs the full bunch of the actors tool files including the in... files. Take these best from the extracted actors.static that comes with the autopop, there is all you need but not more.

Best might be you just test it, look at the displayed text and to your working folders what is done with the files and how they are renamed.

You must first type in the names of some related folders. This and the other programs are for real men, so there is a console and nothing like "windows"Wink

joiner.exe:
Rejoines all editd inbuildings.txt files (named as new_inBuildingsxx.txt now) created by the actor_worker to a new main inBuildings.txt. With that you can run the actors tool. Dont forget to delete empty lines at the end of the file if there are some.

Best might be you put all programms and also your main inBuildings.txt to a separate folder.

I used that programms more than once without problems, i hope they will work also fine for you. I hope these programes help to populate maps.

Ehem, you know what is coming now ;-) I forgot, that i had renamed the actors tools create.bat and outact.bat as _create.bat und _outact.bat. My program try to run the _files and will not find them on an other rig ... So here is the fix:

The actor_worker.exe doesn't write the games folder into the 'folder.txt' so the game will not start after creating the actors.static. I had used a handmade folder.txt, so i didn't notice that.

It's fixed here:
