If we had unlimited money.............. - Nightshifter - 22.10.2008

I found this website Link Here - from the looks of it you can purchase 3d models in the following formats:

# 3DS format
# MAX format
# LWO Format
# C4D Format

8 pages worth of models (with sub variants in each page) with varying price tags.

Are these suitable for importing into the game?

Maybe I'm getting ahead of Myself here but if it were possible I'm sure it wouldn't take very many of the thousands of people here to scrape together the coins to get a hold of some of these models.

Just a thought; saves these guys a lot of hard work on the modelling side I would imagine (minus the actual implementing into game and FM etc.) and a simple poll on a certain aircraft or variant would provide the figures for the amount of people willing to splash out on a new aircraft.

Lots of people contribute financially to the site but then again lots of people do not, perhaps if they had a chance with a degree of certainty to get a hold of the aircraft they would like the most then more people would be willing to put money in - if able of course.

Thoughts?

the b-25c on there is sexy.

I would consider paying a substantial portion for a Skyraider model. (like over half)

And fundamentally useless for what is needed for Il2. Its almost easier to simply start from scratch.

If it would help create a new slot I'd throw cash at the Kawasaki KI-100-1b - definitely...

There's a Whirlwind there too if it would help the current AAA WIP Whirly project along - for just twenty quid  Big Grin

Oops - sorry magpie - didn't see your post...

No need. And, FYI, it wouldn't be a fat lot of good anyway - THESE SORTS OF MODELS ARE NEXT TO USELESS FOR WHAT IS NEEDED FOR USE IN IL2!

Seemed like a good idea at the time Big Grin

Out of curiosity (I have zero 3d modelling knowledge) what is it that wouldn't work with these models or similar models in IL2?

Aircraft in IL-2 need to be in very particular formats with very particular names. They're just just straight forward 3D models. They're made of dozens of separate models joined together in particular ways etc.

Can you be more specific, or give a pointer to a thread which discusses how to model aircraft for IL2?

Obviously, you have to be a real 3D-modeling guru to build a whole airplane, but it seems like remodeling part of an existing airplane (e.g., new engine nacelles or nose) might be possible for a beginner.

Thanks much,

I knew that I'd seen tutorials somewhere, but I was using the incorrect search terms so I couldn't find them.
