Great mod idea! - Freiwillige - 24.10.2008

Make aircraft take off in closer intervals. As it is now your almost at the end of the feild and wheels up before the next aircraft even starts rolling. Scrambles look leisurely to say the least and forming up is a nightmare when the aircraft are strewn 3 miles long.

So my idea is to have the next plane power up as soon as your rolling and then the next so that by the time your wheels up 3 or 4 aircraft are rolling as opposed to one!

I beleive it would make the take off sequence far more realistic.

I even offer to attempt this mod myself if somebody wants to point me in the right direction. I would love to contribute to this great community!

Yes I also think this would be a good mod. Though (and as you said), I also have no idea how to do it .... Smile . Something between "black magic" and lots of codes eh ??????

All the best on this one mate Smile

Yep, this would be nice, but with a interval setting somewhere in the mix.

... what about carrier takeoffs ? second plane would start taking off while first plane is still on deck ...

just a thought ...

Z

Why would that be? - Freiwillige - 24.10.2008

First Flyzo let me say I love your banner! Sure sure youve heard it a million times before but that Catherine Bell is beautifull!!!!

Now back on track, why would the second carrier aircraft take off before the first? Unless I misunderstood your post my idea would theoretically work.

- RAF_Leigh - 24.10.2008

Most of them did to reduce take off time

if there were 40 planes its quicker to take off when the other plane is just right on the edge of the deck then it is if its at the end

nice idea to Big Grin

This is a great idea. Tongue

IF, and I do mean IF it was possible, it would be great to have wider runways, and have the planes take off 4-in-a-line, like a proper scramble take-off....now THAT would be total immersion.

If there was a way to get rid of the planes stacked one behind the other and actually take-off side-by-side, honestly that would turn heads as much as it did when I showed the video released by OLEG at the flight sim show.

It looks the part and would be so realistic!

Cheers, MP.

well, i don't think there is a time trigger between first and second plane ( takeoff) but rather certain position of first plane .... when first plane leaves the runway triggers taking off start for second plane .
So if you place trigger before reaching end of runway ( first plane) to get shorter takeoff intervals it would affect carrier taking off .... IMHO

p.s. i do hope i'm wrong here ...

Ditto Mysticpuma! I'm still waiting for that one to materialize.

This isn't realistic, given that IL2 forces us to take off in line, one after the other. If you could take off with this restriction, line abreast, along a width of the airfield, then ok. The reason for this is safety - I know that sounds odd given the risks airmen have to face, but if one guy has a bad take off accident, you don't want to be right behind him. I understand your frustrations though because scramble scenario's are hilariously slow in the default IL2 system. What we really need is for aircraft to start from several locations indepenedently. If you could do that - you'll get 100% support from me.

Have you ever seen an AI having a takeoff accident?

reflected Wrote:Have you ever seen an AI having a takeoff accident?

On carriers, yes! I have seen AI aircraft hit the bridge or gun turrets and explode because they slid to the side of the carrier while awaiting their turn to take off. AI do not appear to be smart enough to align themselves properly before they start their takeoff run. It's a great idea, but I think it would require the AI to be able to avoid obstacles as they take off. As it stands, it appears that they simply roll in a straight line from where ever they happen to be on the runway/deck.
