Problem hearing AI wingmates etc - sfchammer - 29.10.2008

Hi all

I was using a manual install af the various fantastic mods for a long while (v0.93). Eventually my IL2 started crashing regularly and so i figured something must be corrupted with al the mods i had installed and decided to go thru the dreaded complete re-install and use the Unified Installer to simplify things. I have re-installed many additonal mods over and above the UI ones to get it back to how I had it earlier.

Since then, all the crashes have stopped and everything seems to be working smoothly except for the following "issues";

1. The sounds go really low in voulme if i am looking directly ahead or over my shoulder and increase noticebly in volume when looking at my 3 or 9 o'clock..so much so it really just feels like something is wrong.

2. I can barely hear my AI wingmates or the Control Tower etc..so much so that in the heat of battle I cannot hear when my wingmates are warning me of a bandit on my 6 etc...this is really damaging the game for me. I'd prefer to continue flying without the subtitles as a preference, but I simply cannot hear properly with the situation as it is.

Does anyone else have this or is this normal with the UI? ..I have tried using the batch files to test EAX off and on (I have a creative X-Fi in Vista) and setting the sound extensions thingy in the game's settings to off and on, amongst fiddling with other sound settings in the game and in the setup...all to no avail.

Is there something in the Conf.ini I can tweak or some other setting that deals with these issues?

Thanks in advance for any help.

cheers

Hey Mate
I had this when i looked left it would be loud, when i looked right it would be quiet.
my solution was in the realtek sound device manager the sound was on like a buzzing bee effect, so its lourder in one side, the next louder in the other, i selected normall and thus solved the problem.
Hope this helps S!

Hi Baz

thanks for the reply mate. I went into the creative control panel and set the CMSS-3D (which is the Surround Sound thingy for the headphones) and SVM to on (which basically caps the voulme to a standard level...I think) ... and that fixed it.

These settings must have changed somehow, but I am stuffed if i know how as i have not poked around with those setting for ages... another one of PC gamings wonderful mysteries I guess?

Anyway, cheers for your time mate, much appreciated.
