My 1946 DVD will not install - PapaG39 - 31.10.2008
I renamed my modded install of 1946 which is inside my Ubisoft folderto: -il2 Sturmovik 1946.
It no longer shows up and will not launch.
Then I inserted my C DVD-Rom copy of IL2 Sturmovik 1946 in the dvd rom drive ( I have 2 of them)
and it opened with the il2 box that shows Readme, Start, Uninstall & Exit...The word Install is blacked out.
I have tried both of the drives. they will play the dvd bonus cd that came with the game & any music cd's... I know that both drives work because It will install call of duty or any other of the shooter games just fine...just won't install the only game I want.
is there a-way to get the cd to install manually?

open the disk in windows explorer, and open the file 'a' , this is the setup file.
Copy of IL-2 - LeadZeppelin - 31.10.2008
Hi
Before you modded your IL-2, did you make a back-up copy of IL-2 without any mods and parked it somewhere away from the Ubisoft folder? If so you do not have to re-install (which I believe may not even work) but just make another copy of this back-up unmodded copy, put it in in the Ubisoft folder and give it the standard name. As far as I know you can make as many copies as you want, with different names. I currently have 4 separate versions of IL-2 all taken form my back-up copy.
Hope this addresses your problem and will help you.

I had a similar problem with a reinstall.
I sorted it by using Revo Uninstaller (freeware) to clear out the old programme files.
When it got to the registry scan section I just used a "medium" scan.
Then when I put the DVD back in the install option had reappeared.

Open your registry and delete the UBI folders from it, while those entries are there you cant re-install as the comp thinks its already on the syatem.
Use the "ctrl F" command and type in UBI to find any other stray entries.

I finely got it to install after using various reg cleaners/defragers/scrubbing both sides of the disc until it shined. The disc doesn't look that beat up though...
I have heard before that it will not install if there are pieces of an old install left over.
I went into the registry & search for UBI, but that just brought up some entries that did not say ubi/il2 or anything that would lead me to believe that the entries were from il2.
I have never used two copies of il2. What do you do? just make an extra copy in the Ubisoft folder and then rename to "IL2 Copy" and then make a new folder & move it into that folder or just leave it in the same Ubisoft folder.

If you want to do a new install and keep an old install you must first copy your game OUTSIDE the Ubi folder.
Put it anywhere else, I just copied the entire 1946 folder into the C: DRIVE and run it from there.
Then you uninstall the original from the Ubi folder. Make sure you check the Ubi/1946 folder for leftover files after the uninstall is done, it leaves some. Delete them.
Now you can install a new copy of the game.

i had a problem sort of like this, only with an uninstall. i was trying to uninstall Flight Simulator 2004, and i would click on the uninstall, but it would just make a clicking sound and not do anything. i deleted all files, icons , etc, etc, but the game is still installed and i want to get it off to speed up il2.
