Question regarding MOD planes & DGen - VonBarb. - 12.11.2008

Hi

I was wondering if AAA MOD planes could be used in DGen campaigns, if correctly added to the relevant files ? I know how to change between stock planes but would it also work with recently added planes ?

Cheers

Nico

I'd like to know about this too. One fellow claims to have done it recently, but he was very cryptic on the how-to and was reluctant to post the modified files. :? Cry

Hello guys,

I managed to make the Spitfire Mk I, the Mosquito Mk XVI, the Hurricane Mk IId, the Tempest Mk V 11lbs and the Tempest Mk V 13lbs, all new AAA planes, flyable in DGen campaigns. They will show up in an update of my RAF careers and also BOE campaigns. Stay tuned!

How to do: add them in planesXXY.dat and NameofDBPlanes.dat files. Also add skin assignments in NameofDB.DB files.

I hope to release this soon, but would like an English man to review my work, because I did try to add a BoB campaign... and I want to do it properly. Any beta tester volunteer from Great Britain?

You can set up DCG so that you get historical outcomes ...

DCG uses a lot of my RAM. I was only able to play with up to 20 planes in a mission, unlike DGEN where I can play with much more planes without a problem. Is it supposed to be that way or I did something wrong? That was the only reason why I abandoned DCG..

That is excellent news vtrelut, many of us have never got comfortable with DCG, as good as it may be, and DGen is our friend.

Thanks for this and all the other DGen improvements.

It probably had nothing to do with the number of planes but the number of ground objects. DCG gets heavy bombers to bomb factory buildings by puting static objects inside the factory buildings. The number of static ground objects at airfields, railways, factories and harbors is what cause the FPS drop.

In DCG you have every ground object that is in the campaign in every mission of the campaign. In DGen only the ground objects relevent to your mission appear, hence less objects loaded and kept track of.

They both work in similar ways, only DCG populates an ENTIRE map, not just portions of it at a time.

This may seem odd, but I have found that DCG actually gives me better frame rates across the board. I am still struggling to make work well, but so far it seems to have the distinct advantage over DGEN, as far as most things go. I still have not found how to make some of the campaigns move on to the next map, but on single maps it is working well.

With respect,
Typhoon27

I see, thank you very much. Well, that means that the solution to my problem would be buying a new computer, and that won't happen any time soon..
