Campaign Series: Operation Battleaxe 1941! - Poltava - 19.11.2008

Now that the three campaigns for kapteenis Svir map are just about finished, I have started work on a series of North Africa campaigns, all set in June 1941, during "Operation Battleaxe", the British attempt to push the Afrika Korps back from the gates of Egypt, and all using JAVA69_BADA's super "N.E. Libya a.k.a Tobruk" map.

The first of these five campaigns is now ready. In it you are a German fighter pilot in JG27, flying the Bf 109E. You main opponents are Hurricanes of different marks, plus Tomahawks (the Tomahawk made its combat debut in North Africa during "Operation Battleaxe").

The campaign can be found in the specialised downloads section om Mission4Today: http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3

Here are some screenies, just to whet your appetite:

Notice that there is also pretty much ground action going on, much of it - as in reality - centered around the famous Halfaya Pass, which the Allies in vain tried to penetrate:

The campaign comes with ten skins, by, among others Canon_UK and VP-media. (More credits in the campaign read-me.)

In the four upcoming campaigns you will be able to fly as a
- German Stuka pilot
- Italian G.50 pilot
- Allied Hurricane IIc pilot, mainly in the ground support role
- Allied Tomahawk II pilot, mainly in the fighter role

The first of these should be ready by next week. I have only one caveat: when Canons Channel 1940 map comes out I will put ALL these aside, and just work on campaigns for that one... Smile

You never get bored making new campaigns...

Looks good! Big Grin

Many thanks - always good to see campaigns for the new maps.

I love this map! Thank You for your continued hard work and valuable contributions to this sim.

Poltave, I love this campaign, great fun so far.

But I wish there was an alternative to the "scream like a little girl" German pilot voices. It sounds like an 11 year olds slumber party when the action picks up.

I would love to see some of our German friends redo some of the more hysterical ones.

I suppose I could just delete them.

- Poltava - 21.11.2008

Yes, some are them a bit over the top. I myself REALLY hate the German Ground Controller, which clearly isn't a native German - he can make me cringe...

Hi m8!

Dont know if you can help but I installed your 'over the channel' mini campaign for JG51, I have all the required elements (AAA, Canons channel map etc) but it keeps chucking me into the pilots seat of a Ju52 ??? Not got past the first mission yet.

At the 'armaments' screen only the ju52 entry is highlighted in red, the Bf109E is listed first but is unavailable to click on ??

All the .mis files look ok - any ideas?

You have to start your campaign with a higher rank...

- Poltava - 25.11.2008

Yes, The_Psy is correct.

But the error is ultimately mine. There are ways to work around this in FMB, but as this campaign is only a demo, in exptectance of Canon_UK's upcoming Channel map, I obviously cut some corners...

Thanks guys - didnt think to try that !!

I just played the first mission.

Loved the briefing, the skins, the map, the encounter did happen, got a few kills, enjoyed it mostly.

Now one possible improvement would be a higher cruise speed, the default FMB 300kph is used, it's too slow for the 109E, 400 or at least 350kph would be much more comfortable. Still, i used the second-to-highest rank (readme's Kapitan rank is not on my install), with highest rank there would have been no problem.

Thanks a lot for this campaign Big Grin
