using MAT manager - KG64_Ðørvånski - 21.11.2008

i downloaded MAT manager today, i have installed it and it works. i am not sure how to use it though. i select the insignia, size of swastika, etc., and hit load and x the MAT manager out. it says ,,extracting to FB or PF folders, but when i pull the game up, it doesn't show the swastika or any new markings. how do i activate them or use them? thanks!

Hmm... Are you sure you dont have any mods?

- Guest - 22.11.2008

I'm not sure if mods affect MAT manager - I have loads of mods, and they didn't affect MAT at all...
What is important, is that your il2fb.exe file be the ORIGINAL one, not a crack/nocd one.
That was the only issue I had - after you've installed MAT, no problem to use other exe...
hope this helps in some way... :lol:

You have to install MAT manager before installing any mods....

.....erm, well.......I guess I would advise installing it before any mods, but in my most recent case, it installed perfectly well, even though my mods folder is pretty big... :?:
...don't mean to confuse the issue, but it's not necessarily mod-related...
Dorvanski...did you rename your il2fb file, as per the readme?

What worked for me:

Delete ALL Mat manager files. Uninstall it all. Leave no memories of it!! A pain in the arse, yes, but get rid of the setup.ini, paintschemes/regiments, and also the folder coopreg and anything else mat managery. Anything you are n sure of, leave. Them ai thing is to lose the folders coopreg and regiments.

Now, make a copy of il2fb.exe and rename it to il2.exe
Add the line at the bottom of the section [game]
"ClearCache=0"
also add the line
"clearcache=0" for good measure (one has capitals, one doesn't. I'm not sure which worked, but one of them did, and that's the main thing.)

Now reinstall Mat Manager, if you look on one of the other mat manager threads, there's a link with a unified installer installing all the different versions, up to v2.36, so you don't have to install v2.3, then 2.31... etc.

Once installed, you need to specify the path the the file il2.3x (which should be in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946, or wherever you installed IL2 in the first place to.)

Now load up Mat manager, choose what settings you want. Now, int he centre, find the button save. Click it. Now press the button a little tot he right of it (quit). DO NOT PRESS THE 'X' IN THE TOP RIGHT CORNER!! That clsoes the manaer without loading the new files.

When the manager has finished loading, it will close down. Now load up IL2 and the game should have the new Mats.

This method worked for me, and i've been trying to get the damned thing to work for a while. It is definietly worth it, though!

Good luck!

--edit--

reading another message, i had sound mod, props mod, smoke and trye screech mids, new aircraft etc etc. Loads of mods, and then i installed mat manager. I reckon whether you have nay mods or not makes no difference.

thank you! i did have mods installed before downloading MAT manager. i will retry and hopefully it will work. do the mod planes have authentic markings as well? thanks! Big Grin

- _-JARMOPOWER-_ - 22.11.2008

It weathers and makes every marking historically correct.

All aircraft have authentic and realistic looking markings. No more eyesores tacked on to the side of your aircraft!

Strange Sad I tried clearcache=0 and Clearcache=0 but IL-2 still deletes the Cache folder content. I can see how IL-2 Mat installs the new Mats in there. Then i start the game and if i take a look in the folder again then it's empty. Someone knows how to solve this? And i used the version 2.36. I also got il2fb.exe and il2.exe in the same folder.

- IV/JG2_Dargon - 23.11.2008

Ok got it now. Sorry i just tried "ClearCache=0" i didn't think that there might be a difference between Clearcache and ClearCache. Finally it works. Really awesome tool. 8)
