Is it possible to fix AI Accuracy?? - gamer025 - 26.11.2008

I'm sure many have wanted this. I've heard that in "beta 4" of Il2 the AI Gunner accuracy was reduced/corrected but has since been returned.

Is it possible by ANYONE out there to correct/reduce the accuracy of AI gunners????

.... moved, please use this section for this kind of threads

thank you, and welcome

Ya know fly_zo...

Purely as a suggestion.....For as many threads as the Moderators move, maybe the forum structure needs to be looked at. Seems that where to post "stuff" is NOT intuitively obvious!

To be honest, I don't see how much more specific one can get with what topic goes where..... I mean... it all comes down if you're willing to read carefully (as some people fail to do)

As for your mod suggestion, I hear its VERY difficult to have modding to do with AI... its more... copmlicated.... probably could be done.. but I don't think its being looked at.... although I could be wrong.

I think it's a shame the AI can't be tweaked. I find in single player the dogfights to be rather unrealistic when AI aircraft virtually fight to the death while in real life of course this didn't happen. A while back I tried different settings with fuel to encourage AI aircraft to break off a fight after a few passes at each other and while I can't remember the exact results with the different fuel levels it panned out that at say '18' they'd still fight to the bitter end and at '17' they'd just ignore each other and fly past. :?

is there any program to mod the ai?

- Fincuan - 29.11.2008

Any text editor, preferably one made for programmers, will do Big Grin

The AI is coded in Java

ok im starting learning java now Big Grin

You might also plan your attacks on bombers from the direct front, straight down from above or from the front quarter.
This game has always had wicked tail lgunners.. if you sit on their six they have a perfect shot...ha ha... hell, I can even hit from the tail position when an aircraft comes straight on.

If you spend 2 minutes on the forum every now and then, you'll notice that it's actually very well structured. It's a bit daunting at first and that's when the typical wrong posts happen, when you're new to the place.

Anyway back to topic...

I had a brilliant idea not long ago! Though I'm not sure it can be done but...

As a solution to the insane accuracy of AI gunners on bombers and such, instead of trying to reduce their accuracy, why not compensate by reducing damage? Sure it's unrealistic, but so is their Robin Hood-like accuracy! Of course I expect to be told that this can't be done, but if the accuracy cannot be fixed or reduced, then at least we can try to reduce the damage done by AI defensive gunners by 50% or more.

I just hope that if this can be done that it doesn't affect the guns on fighters and such! Big Grin

Damage is determined by weapon, not AI gunner.

Are you saying that if you reduce the .50"s on a B-17 then all .50"s in-game will have reduced damage? I was hoping it could go plane-by-plane...

Yes, but even if you individualized the weapons for each plane, how would you feel to be a human player forced to use the nerfed .50s? The solution here is simple: improve tactics or reduce bomber AI skill.

Good point about human player. I guess tactics are the way to go, which is the case anyhow. One way is to make all level-bomber AI "rookie" since the gunners are still very accurate, and it doesn't affect their bombing runs.
